This is an absolutely outstanding game!

As a lover of open world games, and someone who has clocked well over 500 hours in souls games, I've been looking forward to this game for a LONG time. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint. The open world formula, along with an overworld that is generally less tedious and punishing than previous souls games, is a match made in heaven with this genre. There's always rewards if you go looking for them, tons of cool spells, ashes of war, items, weapons and so on, and a plethora of bosses in all shapes, sizes and difficulty. I have yet to even touch the game's actual "story route" because I find myself drawn in every direction, towards new points of interest. Which is exactly what an open world game should be like.

Combat feels smooth and engaging, and it deliver exactly what you would expect from the latest Fromsoft game. The world is beautiful and immersive, much due to the excellent music and sound design, along with weather and day/night cycles.

The addition of sneaking, jumping and more base stamina makes the game a joy to play and explore, from the very first steps you take. 10/10, can't wait for the next 100-200 hours of my first playthrough. And finally, on the topic of performance, I've found it to be a small matter. If it bothers you, it can be easily improved through the settings within a minute. Nothing to get all up in arms about. Just my two cents.

I feel obligated to write a review of Subnautica. It is absolutely outstanding, and one of the best games I have ever played.

The basis of the game is incredibly simple, yet brilliant. You have crashed onto an alien ocean planet, and have to survive. The deeper you go, the more danger you face, and for greater reward. However, this is no sandbox game without a definite goal or end-point. There is a story here, beautifully vowen into the game for you to follow and uncover at your own time. And herein lies the true strength of Subnautica. The game flows at the perfect pace, as you yourself set and dictate the pace entirely for yourself. You can spend countless hours just scanning plants and lifeforms, building bases suited for your every need, but any and all upgrades you desire you will have to go out and look for. And you might just find something you didn't even know you were looking for in the first place...

The immersiveness of the world here is just unreal. It feels so alien, yet so welcoming.. so packed with secrets and mysteries.. so dangerous yet homely, that it is impossible not to fall in love with planet 4546B as you become more and more familiar and comfortable with it.

The soundtrack and sound design of this game also deserve big props. It nails the balance between underwater magic and horror, and will always set your pulse exactly to where it needs to be for any encounter or biome you should find.

If you ever dreamed of being a marine biologist, this game will be your life. But it might just become that even if you're just someone who loves the ocean, exploration, a good scare, an immersive world, a feeling of accomplishment, or just a damn good story. As someone who loves all of the things mentioned above, and have spent countless hours deep-diving into immersive single player titles, I can say without a doubt that Subnautica is one of the best, and one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. It has moments, places and feelings that I would give anything to forget, just to experience them all over again for the very first time. This game is a pillar in gaming history, and one that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
