Fran Bow is a game that sent me through multiple emotional loops that culminated in a head scratcher of an ending. I can't really go into much more detail without hitting spoiler territory - but if you like point and click games and have an interest in exploring the realm of psychology and mental health then I highly recommend picking this up!

On the surface it's a fun, silly rhythm game but the more you play and the more you interact with is -the more it has to offer.

I was pleasantly surprised by the subsurface "plot" and modding the game was quite easy with an a very active discord.

9/10 would toot again.

Review in progress!

So far so good - I've just finished the prologue which took me around 5 hours and has set the story up.

Game play has been great - it slowly eases you into some of the games mechanics through the prologue as well as introducing you to some of the residents in the vale and I've enjoyed the humour and puns along the way!

My main gripe so far is that the NPCs feel a bit bland but that may have something to do with the generational mechanics? Writing robust personalities for people who'll eventually die and new ones for people who're born seems a massive job - but I haven't really explored it much outside of casual intros so perhaps I'm not giving it enough of a fair review.

Currently there's a handful of greetings and a few fetch quests to do - but again, that's likely limited as all the good stuff I've seen is locked behind the age barrier.

Will update as I play on. =]

I had a hard time deciding if I should give this a thumbs up or a thumbs down...but I went for the thumbs up - purely because I DID finish the game and got some enjoyment out of it, but it wasn't perfect.

Deathloops core mechanic is in the name. Like groundhog day, if Bill Murray had the ability to teleport and got some sweet guns. You collect a resource called residium to help preserve guns, skills and abilities between loops - which seems like a sweet mechanic at first, until you realise that you can't fill your loadouts without abandoning things, should you need certain skills or you find a gun you really want.

What Deathloop does do well is keep you engaged with a few mysteries. plot hooks and an overarching puzzle which involves trying to kill all the important people in a single day.

What I found it doesn't do well...is more or less everything else.

The gameplay loop (see what I did there) got boring after the 10 or so hour mark. This was partly due to the very small maps and the small changes that are made through the time periods meant you could learn their layouts VERY quickly - this meant towards the end of the game I was zipping around the map like a crazy person, skipping chunks of map entirely as I had no real reason to go there.

Due to the "loop" mechanic - it becomes far too predictable, which I understand is the whole point, but still. Enemies do not get much harder as you go and the AI has a hard enough time keeping track of your as it is, even without supernatural powers. I didn't feel as though the second half of the game was that much of a challenge and once the mystery unfurled, I found myself less and less interested in that too and focused on breaking the loop.

I didn't do much PVP - but I enjoyed what I did play. The constant sense of anxiety, wondering if a Juliana would invade was quite exciting and invading other players was pretty fun too. But, ultimately, will not be enough to keep me playing the game.

Deathloop is by no means a bad game, at all! I just felt the pacing was off and it could've perhaps done with a bit more enemy variety and a bit more content to make it worth while.

6/10

I'll keep it short and sweet, for now.

The game's awesome, so far! Yes, it's having a few technical issues, which means if you're on the fence...don't buy just yet until they sort it out.

I've played a few hours so far and this is my take-away...

Does this game re-invent the wheel? Certainly not.
Is the game nice to look at? Absolutely (running on high/ultra)
Does the game give you awesome loot? ♥♥♥♥ yeah! One of the first guns you get turns your enemies bones into shrapnel.

The game also does a good job of making you feel like a powerful badass from the get go. I'm currently playing the trickster (the kinda roguey class) and teleporting into a group of enemies, slashing them with my energy blade and watching as they turn from human beings, to skeletons, to guts...is (bloody) awesome.

I like the more aggressive style of play I have to adopt. No more looking for health globs/packs or hiding behind cover. I have to dive into the fray and commit bloody slaughter to get my health back.

It's still early yet - but the game has a bunch of potential. Fingers crossed they sort out the bugs/connectivity issues, swiftly!

Is it worth a buy? It's 50/50. As you can see, it's being review bombed by people with very little playtime as they vent their frustrations. If you'd rather not deal with the current problems, fair enough, but I'm enjoying it - very much.

I was going to write a comprehensive and well thought out review for the game but I decided ROCK AND STONE! Pretty much speaks for itself.

Got a bit over enthusiastic and pulled a muscle whilst drumming along and headbanging to Alestorm.

10/10 would injure myself again.

I hugged a burger whilst dressed as some fries. Wholesome has heck.

Game is great. A physics based battle royale featuring dressed up jelly beans. Kinda like Takeshis Castle had relations with a unicorn. You'll jump, push, shove and dive towards the ultimate goal of being number 1 jellybean...only to do it all over again.

It's charming, fun and can be as goofy or competitive as you want it to be. I had a grin on my face through most of the betas (except on those damn seesaws!) and highly recommend it.
