Risk of Rain is a Rouge Like Action Indie Role Playing Game from developers HOPOO Games. A small three man Indie games development company. The publishers of Risk of Rain are Chucklefish, the company that published games like Starbound and Halfway. The focus of Risk of Rain is its fandom platform levels filled with monsters and loot, with each play though different from the last.
Risk of Rain only allows for one life each play thought and yes it sounds a little scary at first but this one life one game mentality makes the players think in different ways. Every time you die it makes you think what you could do better next time and no one death ever feel cheated and like the game was just out to get you. Risk of Rain all around feel even and balanced but can become increasingly easy the longer one session last for with the increase of items you collect, but having only one life makes you causes and only taking risks when it allows for great outcome. And Risk of Rain is all about that high risk high reward. Going back to that one life one game look, it makes the players think about each action and in implemented in a way the player does not even know it is happening to them. They just want to do better than they did last time, want to get further in the game.
The music of Risk of Rain is what immerses the players in this 8 bit world of death and monsters, with the art style and music blending perfectly to fit the style of play that Risk of Rain offers. With the 8bit style art allowing for a wide verity of landscapes and beautiful backdrops, from frozen tundra's to lava underworlds. Each pixel looks gives a feeling of life to the players.
The music of Risk of Rain is there to only increase this feeling of a living and futuristic world. Making it feel like you are in danger on this alien planet that is out to get only you and that you could die at any minute. Giving the feeling that this planet you are on really is alien.
Each play though of Risk of rain I felt like I was only getting better and better at not dying. As simple as it sounds its true, and yes when you are not dying on the first level you can have lots of fun with Risk of Rain. With the amount of items you can obtain and the increasingly large number of enemies that keep rising you never feel like you are completely out of danger. Power yes but not in the clear to take a breath, for every moment in Risk of Rain. Even if it was my first time playing or my 100th. I always felt like I was in the edge of my seat, waiting for the next time I would be able to learn from my mistake and love it.
