I am amending this review from Negative to Positive. Patch 3.0 addressed many grievances I had with the Chaos faction, as well as how armor is handled. While I still feel the bolters in particular are unsatisfying to use in general, and I think ranged weapon TTKs could stand to be sped up for the sake of gamefeel (with enemy spawns being boosted to compensate), the game is now in a good enough state that I feel I can recommend it.

Great game~ Be aware of immense difficulty wall at chapter 5. Try to get a pierce-resistant tank identity before that point, and you'll have a good time.
A gatcha that can't gatcha. Half of my characters I didn't even gable for, just straight up bought them with no RNG for free. Big recommend.

An incredibly good time~ For the one-time asking price upfront, you can get almost ALL of the game's contents completely free very easily, including unlockable characters and skins. I much prefer this model to a ftp one.

Besides that, the gameplay is phenominal and very well-balanced. I'd highly recommend giving it a go. At this point, I'm more than willing to say even full-price the game is worth it. Only thing to be aware of is that the game slowly unlocks more missions for you over time as you play. The first few hours will be the most repetitive , but you'll be rewarded with incredible bossfights and some truly insane missions.

A game filled to the brim with surprises.
If I had to put one word to this game, it would be Substantive.
Not just in its content offering, which far outstripped my expectations. But also in just how deeply emotional its story and characters truly are. No Fromsoft game has dug itself so deeply into my heart and soul like Lies of P somehow did.
If you like Fromsoft's offerings, particularly Sekiro and Bloodborne, you'll easily enjoy this. Moreover, I hope you are just as pleasantly surprised as I am at how truly wonderful this game's cast of characters is, and just how much value they alone add to the game.

Mid-apocalypse is a genre that we need more games for. This game proves that with incredible gusto.

Remnant 2 is a highly polarized experience.
It's a game that tries to push the envelope with every handcrafted encounter, whether they be bosses, puzzles, or hordes. As a result, it has some of the most stunning and creative bosses I've seen in a video game, let alone a soulslike.
However, in some ways the envelope gets pushed too hard. For every brilliant, show-stopping bossfight, there are three or four that quickly slide into being obnoxious, obtuse, or straight up bad.
The game's co-op functionality is robust and convenient, but that is counterbalanced by extremely poor lag compensation that makes the game significantly harder for the players that are not the host.
The game's loot and buildcrafting allow for some extreme creativity. But most of the loot is too obscure to get blind. Use of the wiki becomes practically required at certain points (Including gear that takes 24 real-time hours to become obtainable after beating a certain boss, gear that's locked behind getting a specific version of two different locations in a single campaign run, etc.)
This is a game clearly made with intense passion and love from a team of devs who weren't afraid to get their hands dirty treading unwalked ground in a TON of aspects. As a result, you can expect a near-endless stream of surprising ideas and mechanics; but you can also expect a lot of those surprises to be fairly unpleasant ones.
This is a game that needs an open mind and a lot of patience to be enjoyed to its fullest. It comes with some of the highest peaks I've seen, so long as you can take those lowest valleys.
Finally, shoutout to Rob Westwood for composing the game's soundtrack. Absolutely stunning work that should NOT be missed.

Was a great experience, up until every jump relied on janky ladder hitboxes.

Do not play this if you enjoy stealth in Far Cry.
Stealth was already the slowest option for this franchise, the most time-consuming. So to make it more "interesting" they hid all of your stealth upgrades behind gear that you may not find if you don't look in the right place. Also throwing rocks to distract enemies is no longer a thing. Instead, you get limited tennis ball consumables to distract enemies. Also silencers can overheat now, because playing stealth already wasn't a slower option than playing loud.

I get that it's not the reason most people play the game, but none of what they did to stealth made it more difficult. Just unfun and inconvenient.

If you go in expecting some jank, this game is a lovely time~
As far as soulslikes go, this one does not provide i-frames on dodge. Dodges are purely for repositioning. Character power is provided by gear and gems slotted into gear. The devs are lovely people who are working their butts off to fix the game's issues, so please show them some support for the good work they're doing!

Pure, unadulterated hype.
