adds 2 origins that are probably the most narrative interesting so far, not much to say otherwise.

i like the rework for leaders and it gives you choices over leader progression. my only ask for DLC is that it substantially changes or adds a system to the game. this DLC does both those things however it may be overpriced depending on how much you like the base game. well worth $10 if you can get it on sale, otherwise $15 isnt bad if you want to increase system complexity.

it doesnt add much if anything, yes it includes new story material and some relics however those things can be acquired for free using mods. no new functionality besides a new resources which is fine, i guess. would have been great if they added new functionality like being able to actually explore a subspace dimension. thinking about it now why not rework wormholes to be astral rifts and be able to control inter-wormhole space lanes?

probably best described as a political RPG, taking the role of a struggling nation and having the capability of driving it towards democracy or totalism, capitalism or communism, isolationism or globalism, all while managing a family. a truly compelling story with a lot of replay value!

the fact this game is free astounds me. its a complete fictional natural documentary on a social species of whale in their early stages of development but that doesnt even come close to describing it. im buying the DLC simply because to not support the dev is a crime imo

been playing for like 280 hours and overall its a great game. definitely a medieval themed meta-dating sim with action elements.

i originally played this when it came out on ps4 and back then i would ahve rated it a 2/5 only because of how good the story was, it was borderline unplayable and i had to restart multiple times to get an ending. I have been watching from the side lines for the past few years seeing the updates and waiting for phantom liberty and 2.0 patch. having now put a fair amount of time in and seeing the major overhauls i am happy to say this is now a solid 4/5 game.

the game fumbles the open world exploration with still some significant amount of unneeded bloat in the form of NCPD dispatch calls which would be better served being relegated to random encounters, and the way information is conveyed for some gigs via over text rubs me the wrong way. however, the main story is incredible and something i cannot recommend enough as it is brutally human in a brutally inhuman world. the 2.0 update really fixed a lot of things even outside of stability issues and improves gear, crafting, and the RPG system.

Throwing it out there as an end note, I really hope CDPR (and all other devs for that matter) tones down the open world aspects of their games and constrain their scope. games like this and Elden Ring would massively benefit from a more curated experience with having almost half the open world cut. Similarly, crafting systems while neat are not a must include and if done sub-optimally (like in the initial release) heavily detract from the experience.

Edit: I just completed the DLC and I have to say that I have not been more narratively satisfied in a long time. CDPR is a god tier writing team and I have high hopes for their next endeavor. While I cannot forget the state this game was launched in I do forgive it and think this more than redeemed their past failure.

Full notice, I only played about two hours before posting this but I feel that my experience could be informative for others. first and foremost, if you are looking for a game that is technically challenging you wont find it here. if you are looking fora game with meaningful exploration, you are better served with something like no mans sky. if you want a good initial hook or experience of awe early on, you wont find it here.

I ran through about half of the first planets areas all the while feeling incredibly bored for the process. I fought the pirates who were bullet sponges that lacked the ability to fight back meaningfully. I defeated the teramorph at level 2 using the mining drill and taking no damage by standing on a ledge which it could not reach and its ranged attack could not affect. I went to constellation, turned on the maguffin and uninstalled the game.

Let me paint you a picture of the last two big hits Bethesda released. In Skyrim, immediately following character creation you are set upon by a dragon which ruins the city. escaping with your life while fighting the nominally enemy faction you flee with a companion to a small town and are tasked with meeting the Jarl of Whiterun or go recover a stolen claw from a tomb full of undead. either way, within 2 hours you have a hook, compelling direction, and quests with tons of well defined and designed enviornments which mesh well with the area. In Fallout 4 immediately following character creation you survive a nuke, get frozen, and have you son kidnapped and your spouse shot. you escape to find the world in tatters and are near immediately tasked with fighting a raiders and eventually a deathclaw in power armor with a minigun. while neither of these games are perfect they illustrate what appears to me a lack of focus and a desire to build elements of a game which are uninteresting and have frankly been done better.

that all said, starfield is by no means a bad game. there are elements to it which i can see people liking and if you are willing to power through the less than interesting no mans lands which i take it are very common for random encounters then I suppose you would find it fun. however, to me the game is a solid 2/5-3/5 from what i experienced and completely unjustified by the $70 price tag. wait for a sale would by my recommend.
