Having played this game for many years I quit when the banking rework was not done. Then I started playing again and discovered that they had done some good updates. I then requit when I discovered how horrifically toxic most communities are. You would join a community who would state that they don't allow slurs, only for someone to use a slur and the leadership team would claim it's allowed. The game's communities are sadly a race to the bottom. And that's in the marginally better, less elitist communities. My maxed account is dormant once more.

the interface is tricky to get your head around if you go into it new, as opposed to those who played it in 1997. The game is very well thought out, humorous, and for it's time relatively progressive (not saying it's perfect but it offers a hell of a lot of good things missing from games even today).

It is important to note: There are hard to get to right click options on things in the world and your inventory. Example:
To light a flare, go into your inventory (not one of the two slots you have for ready to hand items), and right click it until you can see 2 hands (amongst other things). The open hand will light the flare, which will then go to the bottom of the inventory, the let go hand below it will drop it on the floor where you are. You can also put a lit (or unlit) flare into your to hand slot and throw it.
With real world items, you can (though this is very very rarely used, I only used it once) do a right click select backpack option, which will then allow you to use say, a radio in your backpack, with a computer in front of you.

Next for me is playing through fallout 2.

I decided it wouldn't be fair to review this game based on downgrading, which one might argue is a mod, and how I got the game to work originally, so instead I did a play through from steam. I had previously played GTA liberty city and GTA vice city on steam, again, no modding.

Sadly as I hit 90% ish the game got taken down from the steam store, so if you're reading this, you already own it, as those who do not have this cannot access the store page (or if they can they certainly cannot buy it).

For reference I played this using proton as my OS is arch linux. 1080 GPU - 16GB RAM, i7-7700K CPU, not that any of that should matter for a game this old.
I used X11 and not wayland, but experienced the lack of stability on both when starting out.

The gameplay itself doesn't tend to be **that** buggy. There are still some ingame glitches to exploit (biggest one being infinite time on the bike challenge in the docks of san fierro next to the import/export. Interestingly I couldn't trigger it on the BMX.

In terms of stability though this thing is hell.
Going through any cutscene (that includes exiting and entering homes, shops, watching the cutscenes in missions) can cause the game to crash. The game doesn't always know it's crashed (usually not) and this requires killing it manually.
When loading back up it often glitches on the loading screen, resolved through completely killing the game and steam.
Other times it knows it's crashing and exits itself.

This means when destroying my own vehicle in a race to restart it, boom, crash (and as other races were not saved, had to redo those as well).

Did the first part of the last mission, flipped my car on the second part, crash. No ability to save inbetween, had to restart last mission.

Got to certain points in the last mission, crash between parts, have to restart last mission.

The story line is brilliant, the character development enjoyable, the game play and missions well thought through.
It's just a shame the steam version is SO unstable, and the developer seems to have hated a lot on mods, so getting this working if they ever make it available again seems unlikely.

I hope upon hope that the next GTA version is not so buggy. These bugs were not experienced in LC or VC.

LINUX USER FEELS LIKE LINUX BUGS ARE IGNORED:

After leaving a positive review in BETA, where I was impressed with this game, but reported some bugs, I was shocked to do a playthrough 2 years later, and find bugs reported 2 years ago persisted on linux with no acknowledgement. Fair is fair, perhaps they're missed, so I reported them and a moderator let me know that they had been passed on to the dev team 1 month ago. No acknowledgement of the bugs exists, and at least one bug persists for x11 users within lambda core. I didn't have it in me to continue playing to see if the second lambda core bug remained. This game is not suitable for linux users, and to say minimum requirements for linux users exist is ridiculous when the game remains buggy. The bugs reported in the appropriate forum are moved to the linux section, and from there they appear to just be ignored.

A real shame as a lot of good work appears to have gone into this game.

Early Access Review
Interesting maps, great game play (definitly a game you want to be talking to the other players on, so teamspeak or discord with some friend's is a must). I do recommend it, it is frustrating, but not too frustrating!

Only one complaint I have is that they should optomise this game ASAP. My Nvidia 1080 on a 1080p resolution at 144hz is heating up a lot, the graphics are good, but I'm not sure that they feel good enough to pay such a heavy price on my GPU.

This game is short, it takes an hour or so to play.
However, what it lacks in a need for time dedication it makes up for in terms of quality. This is a 5/5 game.
It draws out the lives of 2 characters from what I saw to be 3 or 4 different perspectives. It is a left click game, and pressing escape will quit the game. Whilst there is no save function I think I could now probably finish the game in 5-10 minutes (knowing how to do it). That's the fun of the game though. So the lack of saving isn't important.

The game keeps you guessing in many ways, and when you've stopped guessing it lets you finish your investigation into what happened. The ending is pretty fantastic too. I really recomend playing this game when you have a spare hour.

Listen out for the clock chiming, that signals that you can do something knew (even if it's clicking on the picture on the table again). Which will likely then trigger more things to do as well.

HAVE FUN!

Originally I had recommended the game, I was a lot younger, and a lot more carefree about not being a nasty person. I myself was toxic and the game owner tolerated my general hatred of humanity.

The game disappeared, I grew up, and whilst I still hate humanity, it's for less toxic reasons. If you're bad at the game you're bad at the game, whatever. But there's no reason for bigotred language based in abelism, homophobia, sexism, racism etc.

Sadly the game developer disagrees, and instead believes that it is against free speech to deplatform people who use that platform to spread bigotry.

To the point where the game developer finds the words "toxic masculinity" and "microaggression" to be offensive, stating that they don't want those words used around them.

Reminds me of incel culture, if Elliott Rodgers were alive today I would expect him to appreciate such arguments.
