Short version is, it's got the juice. The major gripe everyone has is the UI, and I don't disagree but it's not a dealbreaker for me. On the good side, the game is incredibly fun and engaging. I love the new city system, the Ages are great and really help keep the game fresh as it goes on and smooths over some issues with civs being good in one era and worthless in another. Warfare feels excelled with the new Army Commanders and I love how it changes up gameplay and reduces decision fatigue with promotions. The victory conditions in some ages aren't my favorite but overall they're all fun and worth pursuing depending on who you are. I love the new approach and I can't wait to see what's coming next. Every game I play I just immediately start another one to try another leader or another scenario, I just can't stop taking one more turn and this game has reignited my love of Civ after I kinda burned out on 6 after the first season pass. Highly recommend, don't sleep on this one, even with the mixed scores. It's great now and in a year or two once they've expanded and patched it it's going to be the game everyone is playing

You have to be a certain type of psycho to enjoy shaving milliseconds off a time like this. I am that psycho

I've been following this game since Yahtzee's second season of Dev Diary and it's so good to see it done and so close to the original vision he proposed. It's the kind of game where I can just zone out and play and not realize hours have passed. If you like Stardew Valley but crave more of a story and adventure, or if you like Elite Dangerous but want to be able to ease the realism elements, this is well worth your time and money. It's also very funny and well written of course, but what surprised me here is its ability to be a classic Ben Croshaw sardonic humor like his books but not overwhelm the experience into just being a "comedy game". It works well on its merits as a game without the sharp dialogue and parody elements, but those elements actually enhance the experience.

Fantastic story and atmosphere, shame about the gameplay. Def recommend if you're into hard scifi and creepy existential horror, just don't expect a thrilling gameplay experience

Fantastic little mystery and very interesting take on law and order. I couldn't stop from the time I started until I finished it

This might be the best game story I've ever experienced. Seriously. Try not to learn anything about it and go in blind if you can. It's kind of a generic cover shooter, but has enough going for it to press on. Trust me, you're in for some of the best writing in games history.

Insanely fun and well done. I haven't played the original but I kinda wanna check it out just to see how little they differ. The level designs are intensely confusing and there are some sections that are so ridiculously unreasonable you have to save scum (cough beta grove cough) but overall tons of fun and worth your time and money. Definitely support the game if you like dungeon crawls and immersive sims, I'd love to see this team take on the sequel

Absolutely fantastic game, has a bit of jank as old games tend to but incredibly absorbing and fun. Just finished my first run, and now I gotta play all the -Shock games and probably replay this once or twice since I never touched psi powers or energy weapons. Tons of fun, although the last levels dragged a bit and got a bit frustrating, but I can barely complain

One of the most unique and powerful gaming experiences I've ever had. I enjoyed it a lot. The combat gets a bit frustrating towards the end, but that ends up dovetailing nicely with the story so I look back on the end more fondly. Can't recommend it enough, $30 is a steal for pure value of beauty and style.

It's like Doom Eternal but with the slicing mechanics of Revengeance and the art style of Borderlands. Just buy it. It's a bit short so maybe get it on sale, but no matter what it's fully worth it. The first is worth checking out but nowhere near as fun
