While Guns of Icarus is a fantastic game, with totally novel, extremely robust and fun gameplay, not to mention kickass settings, and runs quite well on even middle-to-low end computers it suffers from one glaring issue.

Population problems.
The community is all but dead, and given the game is exclusively multiplayer, this is pretty serious. It is entirely impossible to find a match where all members have low ping, at least in my experience. The last time I played this, there were 75 people in game, and ~12 in the lobby - in a game where each airship needs maybe 4-5 players to man it effectively this really hurts playability.

As much as I hate to say it, without a major drop in price, or the much maligned move-to-F2P, I don't recommend the game in its current state.

I'm going to emphasise this.

THE GAME IS FANTASTIC, INCREDIBLY NOVEL AND ENGAGING.
ITS POPULATION IS TOO SMALL TO BOTHER BUYING IT AT THE CURRENT PRICE.
Just know that if you buy it, you're going to have difficulty finding matches.

GTA IV is a very sad example of a PC game.

Since building myself a new computer, I decided to download it again to see how well it runs.
Here's my specs:

Intel i5-4690k @ 3.5ghz, OC'd to 3.9ghz, quad core.
16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM
Nvidia GTX 960 (2GB)

Now, you'd expect a seven year old game like GTAIV, even a pretty intense one, to run flawlessly at 60FPS?
No such business. While at times I had no issue reaching ~55fps, generally in less intense areas like cutscenes or near trh beach, the game stuttered all over the place in more detailed areas like Roman's house at the very start. This is pretty terrible.

Now, I hear tell that GTA IV is probably a prime example of the worst PC port from a console game in existence, maybe besides Saints Row 2. I'm inclined to believe that.
Even after tweaking settings and telling the program that yes, I did have a lot of memory and a good graphics card, and feel free to use it all instead of constraining yourself, the stuttering did not go away.

Now, all this would be irritating, but playable. The game's certainly still playable, though the stuttering affects enjoyment. The storyline is pretty good, albeit darker and grittier than previous and future GTA installments.

The best thing ever:

With the demise of Games for Windows Live, it is now nearly impossible to save your game. You must jump through hoops in order to get it to save offline, which means the online community is totally dead. Coupled with the fact that it uses FOUR methods of DRM:

- Steam (on its own, not an issue)
- Social Club (notoriously ♥♥♥♥♥♥)
- Games for Windows Live (♥♥♥♥♥♥ on release, dead now and unusable)
- the much maligned SecuROM, well known and unstable.

You're gonna have a bad time.
Four DRM systems all running at once, coupled with poor optimisation and a shoddy PC port, as well as serious issues with saving the game (it asks you to sign into GFWL, which doesn't exist anymore - you have to use third party tools to even get the game able to save progress) means that I would absolutely not recommend this once great game. It's too far gone to be worth buying anymore.

This game is a hallmark of the Arena shooter era, and was definitely a match for Quake in its heyday, along with its older brother UT99.

The game is fast paced, fun, and frenetic - you dodge around all over the place, rockets zipping past your view while you nimbly kill your opponents with a variety of weapons.

If you like a game with superior gameplay, then this is definitely the one for you.

As someone who came from a significantly different series of fighters, I found MKKE a little hard to get into. I never played Mortal Kombat when I was younger, so I sat down expecting a refreshingly different fighter.

Animation of moves is gorgeous and fluid, and runs perfectly. Everything looks pretty, for its era. Then I start the story mode and the game runs in slow-mo.

Autodetect evidently decided i had my graphics too high? I dunno. But even dropping graphics down to the absolute minimum possible, i still had this slow motion where it became nigh impossible to string a combo together.

Apparently, this is because it's a... surprise surprise, CONSOLE PORT. I'd use one of the slap-dash workaround mods that unlock / set the framerate at 30/45/etc, but they tend to make the game run too fast.

Jesus, it's like they didn't even bother to test this on any computers before they released it!

That said, if you're on a computer that MKKE arbitrarily decides deserves full speed, it's a pretty fun fighter.

Easily one of my favourite games ever. Most of the weapons are well balanced, and the combat is absolutely insanely fun. What's more, it's free! (Strictly speaking, you should buy at least one thing from the Mann Co store to get the full fun out of it, but that's like a $0.50 outlay, which heck, you can get with trading cards).

Woah. So... lemme begin.

I have a lot to say about Loadout.

First.

HOLY MOLY A FREE GAME WITH NICE CARTOONY GRAPHICS AND A GIMMICK THAT WORKS!? AND DOESN'T HAVE MICROTRANSACTIONS EXCEPT FOR CHARACTER CUSTOMISATION?

Too awesome.

Second:

This game is pretty unique. Its graphics are cel-shaded cartoonyish, in a similar format and setting to Borderlands 1 and 2, and Loadout is a third person over the shoulder shooter. It's vaguely reminiscent of UT and other great arena games in terms of its damage, but where this game REALLY shines, is its unique gimmick of crafting your own weapons. I have barely scratched the surface, but pretty much every gun I've used or generated has been viable but not overpowered.

That said, Loadout suffers from a few things.

Given it is so early on, the bots in Loadout seem intolerably dumb while also having sixth senses and near-aimbot level accuracy - they stop to taunt after a kill, even if they are under fire from five directions, but if they catch you unawares you are utterly boned. They can hit you across the map with any hitscan weapon without trying, and their sniping skills are easily MLG level.
Coupled with the young community (in age and maturity both) you'll frequently be getting angry kids in chat, and people disconnecting mid game. That's not really the dev's fault, at least.

All told, it's a good fun game that I can recommend, as it's free, not microtransaction heavy like SOME other free steam games (looking at you, practically everything on that list) and is easy to pick up and set down.

I'm really not sure how this got to be popular. The driving feels far too heavy to be enjoyable, even for a simulator, and there are so, so many bugs in the physics engine and the AI's control of their vehicles for me to avoid running out of money while transporting goods.

The AI change lanes as fast as the cars on the freeways in GTA: San Andreas did - i.e. faster than your lumbering starter truck could ever hope to. They do so even when you are in the lane, which forces you to slam on the brakes lest you rear end them, leaving their car totally uninjured (i mean, really? we had destructable car models years and years ago) and immobile in the middle of the freeway. This often causes pileups as although your brakes are terrible, the AI's brakes are worse.

The character model is horribly dated, even for 2008 - while your truck is quite a pretty piece of graphics, the character driving it has a grand total of three different animations - "turn left, turn right, not turning", and they jar horribly if you're viewing the vehicle from the front.

It appears to be very, very quickly churned out by a junior company for a driving school, not a full fledged trucking game which I hoped.

I heard the sequel is better.

While quite a lot of fun indeed, Dino D-Day suffers from quite a few flaws, in my opinion.

While the class based system is quite fun to use, a lot of the characters are just... too hyperspecialised. The medic can barely defend herself, the rocket user needs to be bang on target otherwise he's dead, and the dinosaurs feel hard to use under lag.

The multiplayer scene is quite dead as well. I only found a few servers online, and even then, they were all North American servers, so I was unable to play without severe lag, which impacted upon my fun.

To be honest, I felt that this was boring, and that most of the scares were just jumpscares. Rather than scared, I was simply annoyed by the jumpscares. I haven't played long enough of it to get a full idea, but perhaps it gets better further in.

A slice of gaming history, still as delicious as the day it was baked.
