Cute game, but it has so much jank, backtracking and random deaths that it's impossible to recommend this to anyone.

A game with an awesome initial presentation that falls short on a closer look.

First: It relies heavily on scripted events which, while they may make your first playthrough seem like you're the main actor influencing how the interactions play out, on repeat playthroughs you begin to realize the game does not give you much choice on how to deal with each situation after all. In every quest, the player character gets entangled in a highly orchestrated play and taken along for the ride, responding to and enacting with the same lines every time, with little recourse other than choosing outright bad choices like "kill everyone" or "ignore and refuse the quest". For example, the main quests can all have you siding with the enemy if you pass the DCs (which were made very easy if you know what to pick or fulfill the conditions) and are clearly the better choice among the other options, so you will be doing that frequently because there's no reason not to seeing as it lets you avoid having to do battle with some major disadvantage (which can get pretty unfair) and also get better rewards.

Second: bugs galore, which are not getting fixed one year after release. Partly due to the aforementioned high amount of scripted events, stuff breaks if a script doesn't trigger like it should. It is really annoying having to deal with this on a honor playthrough.

Third: EXTREMELY streamlined menus. No joke, the UI is sleek and pretty to look at, but hello? I need to know the enemies abilities and resistances, or how many spell slots, or even what spells I have learned on my character when deciding what to pick when leveling up. YOU CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT WHAT THE POTION YOU ARE CREATING DOES WHEN DOING ALCHEMY, you just get the potion name and some inane description like "Pegasus used these when running to his lover's house to suck his ♥♥♥♥". To see the potion effect you have to exit alchemy, go into your inventory, find a copy of the potion and read the tooltip there. You also have to press buttons to see important information in battle -- like oh, that enemy is immune to physical!? -- which is kept hidden for god knows what reason. No, you can't see your character's proficiencies / traits / known spells when leveling up either, you have to exit the process and open up your character sheet. It reminds me of the vanilla oblivion inventory back in 2005, which needed mods to be fixed; unfortunately, we don't have mods to fix everything here (yet?).

Bottom line is I think it is a shame they spent so much money on voice acting and trying to make everything look perfect when they could have made the game more organic and interactive (and fun).
Still waiting for a decent crpg to come out.

Meh, it's okay if you like the base game. The main problem is that it drags on forever towards the end. If you complete it you get some goodies in the main campaign.
However, there's no real reason to replay it since it's relatively short, you characters don't get many levels and your choices don't matter much or at all.
I'd give it a thumbs up if the last dungeon wasn't full of encounters with the same types of enemies and lots of "gotcha!" rooms with mimics.

I'd prefer it if they made dlc that added things to the main campaign and more classes and archetypes.

The game lets you go wild building your characters and party, which is great. However, it also tends to drag on forever with many unnecessary fights.
You need to have a lot of willpower to finish it.

can't possibly give this game a positive review when swarms exist

On a serious note: it has too much jank and too many bugs that went unfixed. Also spending money on VA instead of fixing the game is the nail in the coffin.

Developer is scummy, releasing ads for their new games disguised as 'updates'.
About the game: It's fun and difficult for a while until you learn how to beat it; what strategies work. What bothers me the most is that the controls for combat are quite honestly very bad; every command, and even moving the camera, is given through left click, which means the game sometimes can mistake your command to hide in the dark or to move the camera as walking or attacking the enemy instead, sometimes getting you killed.
There's also no wasd controls for the camera which is kinda jarring. In subsequent playthroughs you might be fighting the controls more than the difficulty of scavenging for supplies or the sadness of the war.

All in all i'm giving it a negative for low replayability, bad controls, disguising advertisements as updates and excessive leaning on the emotional aspects (which is fine for a first playthrough but not for a short game meant to be replayed like this).

Awesome game. Recommended for any fans of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Evangelion, Xenogears, and those who enjoy a good story.

The kids start humming and huffing throughout the day which is VERY annoying, and there's no way to tone it down.
