It is well worth picking up...it makes pretty clever use of gaming conventions that we all have become used to. If you check the Hub you'll see a lot of people were very touched by the story.

Hey, buddy! See you added "To the Moon" to your wishlist. I LOVED that one! Just be aware it really isn't a "game" per se...it's a really beautiful Story told using gameplay as the medium...I'm man enough to admit there were several points where I actually got a little misty-eyed.

I don't buy games much, but I'll probably be buying Rome 2 for sure :)

It's all subjective. My thought has always been if a person enjoys a game that everyone else hates then more power to them. Endless Space is really good. You'll see a lot of complaints about the Combat, but most sound like they're coming from folks who are more used to RTS where you can control every shot.

I got into the GalCiv games mostly because the Tech Trees are so big...makes you really pick a direction by mid-game because you can't research everything. I wasn't able to get into Civ V...not sure what it is, but it just felt a bit lacking to me, although the combat was WAY better than Civ IV.
You may want to take a look at Endless Space...I passed on it a few times until it went on sale for a little over $10. It's pretty cool and they keep adding new content for free based on players input via voting on their website. They're working on an expansion now, so it may come up on sale again soon.
