A Surprise to be sure, but a Welcome One.

The first time I saw this game was voting for the Game of the Year 2020 on Steam, the only nomination that was not from a major publisher or a AAA title, it caught my attention right away. Took me a while to start playing the game, but in my first playthrough I was truly impressed with the art style and how it felt so satisfying, the narrative is great, incredible Voice Acting and it has smooth Mechanics that provides incredible variety to the player, all elements combined created a Overwhelming Game.

• Characters and Narrative – This game is very well written, gods and side characters have their dept and purpose on Zagreus Journey, giving you hints or improving their relationship with time. From a funny loose comment to a complete quest from them, and all that improved with a great voice acting.
  
  
• Variety of Weapons – There are 6 different weapons that you can unlock and choose to play, each one having their own unique mechanics and a total of 4 aspects, this contributes a lot to the diversity and long-term life of the game, not even considering the Boons and Hammer.
  
  
• Powers/Boons – This is the way the Gods interact with you in the game, they improve all your Aspects and gives you passive Status to help your journey to the end, every God gave you their own Powers and the possibilities between combining the Boons are amazing, this one being my favorite thing to do in the game.
  
  
• Progression – Being a Rogue-like game, pretty much everything you gather during your run is Reset after you die, but there a few things you keep that helps you improve on your runs, but the process of improvement in the game will be very satisfying and perceptible, there is so much to learn here.
  
  
• Achievements – First time in years that I’ve gathered all the Achievements of a game, but this was a great way of deepening in the game after I managed to reach the end, the number of things that can be left behind are huge and great to experience, glad I went this way.

It is impressive how much this game has to offer, the attention to detail and features with the focus being your attempts to escape the House of Hades, everything has a purpose and will be important as you progress in the game, from building your relationship with characters to decorating the hall. I love everything about Greek mythology, and this game turn out to make great use of this type of storyline, making me really immerse into what was happening and characters, which usually don’t happen.

I must say how impressed I was about the replayability of this game, with RNG features and a lot of ways to increase difficult, even changing the habilities of the enemy and bosses, now this is game that I will play from time to time just for the fun of it. With all things considered, I must recommend it to anyone, from those who enjoys the genre to people that never experienced it before, this game can be a totally new experience for you.
