My destiny was no longer my own—I was to become a soldier in this ceaseless conflict.

War, I quickly learned, was a cruel teacher.

In this realm, death was but a brief interruption. Each time I fell, I respawned, only to be thrust back into the maelstrom. I died so many times in my first year that despair clawed at me, begging me to quit. But a voice inside urged me forward: "You can be better. You can become one of them."
