You'd think using not one, or two, but three unforgivable curses next to your professor would warrant a reaction. 10/10

My friends assumed this was a dating-sim. They were not wrong.

After 38 hours of playing, beating the game and NG+ with different characters and trying different playstyles, I can wholeheartedly and sadly say that this game falls short of expectations. I'm not gonna mention the performance as it's been repeatedly listed as a constant headache for a lot of people so let's instead dig into the gameplay and longevity of the gameplay itself.

The map of the game is huge and quite sprawling but most of the time it feels completely bloated because huge parts of the map aren't really there for any other reason than being there. Does it make the area look prettier? Not necessarily. The phrase "less is more" is quite fitting as they could've decreased the map by probably 33% and still fit the content of gameplay they've put into the game.

The actual gameplay is mostly doing "random" crime events that you discover in the open-world. They're divided into smaller crimes giving you "clues" for next night's bigger crime events with better rewards. That's it. That's also how the story develops and continues on, you perform the actions mentioned above to eventually give you a "unique" mission. The uniqueness can be debated. The story itself is very short and somewhat interesting but very predictable. Without going into spoilers, the story will advance the game into harder segments by adding new enemy factions but the open-world content remains the same. The boss fights are few, bland, and uninteresting. Dodge, attack, dodge, use abilities, et c.

On November 25th they'll update the game with supposedly 4-man co-op and hopefully by then they'll have fixed the performance issues. Playing online co-op drops the fps and crashes a lot of times. Imagine playing with 3 other people.

I can not earnestly recommend this game for anyone until performance issues are fixed and even then, only at a discount.

It's a good game but I don't write reviews; this is more for the purpose of YOU saving money. As of writing 2021-08-07, there's a massive discount on the complete edition of the game on Square Enix's store and it usually comes and goes.

Well designed graphics and character aesthetics. Hack 'n slash with a fun melee system. There is no better feeling than connecting a charged melee attack on an enemy while sprinting.
