Story was surprisingly decent, although short. Game is sadly tied down by an Anthem styled loot system and limited mission variety. The game is clearly focused on post campaign content with new missions and characters such as hawkeye. Given a year of post launch content this game may turn out to be great. However, I would recommend waiting for it to be on sale.

While the combat can make it easy to skip over the first witcher the story and detail provided made it a thoroughly enjoyable game despite its age.

The game lacks the open world of witcher 3 but makes up for it with a story that has make decisions with no clear best option.

I would give the game till the mid point of chapter 2 as I found chapter 1 was quite a boring introduction ,however the story picks up pace after which I was hooked till the end of the game.

If you can overcome the basic combat the game is great!
