I have something of an interesting relationship with Fallout. I love the story, setting, characters, nearly everything about the games, but when it comes to the Bethesda titles, something about them just turns me off. Be they the glitches or the changes to the core Fallout formula that weaken them as games in the Fallout franchise, I just couldn't get into them. BUt when I played New Vegas for the first time, something happened. I understood what the hype was about. NO longer was it a soulless open world, but one that reacted to nearly everything I did, leading a a wasteland that I could change in ways big or small to make my gameplay experience unique every time. But, even though my love for New Vegas never wained, my patience with the franchise did, and after finishing all the New Vegas DLC, I still wanted more. So, I booted up a game that I had gotten for free years ago and still hadn't touched, Fallout 1.

I had played Deus Ex a couple of years prior and bounced off of it; I expected a similar experience with Fallout 1. I would play it for a couple of hours, appreciate it for what it did for the video game industry, and then move on. But, something happened. I fell in love with Fallout all over again. If you're scared of picking this game up because it's too old, don't be. I'm not even done with the main story yet and every part of this game feels fresh, new, and engaging. The wasteland doesn't feel empty, it feels alive and teeming with threats at every turn. The horror of being gunned down by super-mutants juxtaposed against me getting my first set of Metal Armor by taking out a group of raiders single handedly, armed with nothing but a 9mm SMG doesn't feel like some chore I'm doing to get more experience points, but a real out and out conflict that takes patience, time, strategy, and just a bit of save scumming. This game has fully convinced me to give the rest of the classic lineup a shot, and good for it.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War (God I hate that title so much) is simply one of the best and most original Call of Duty games to have come out in the past while. Not since Black Ops 1 have I seen this level of creativity and passion that has gone into a Call of Duty game. After seeing the many directions this franchise took, and playing the underwhelming MW2 Campaign Remaster, my faith in CoD began to wane. I dropped the series for several years before picking up Cold War on the 2023 Spring Sale, and what I played blew me away.

Campaign (General) - 10/10

Simply one of the best Call of Duty campaigns bar none, and certainly the best CoD campaign in the last 10 years. The ammount of ways that Raven manage to change up the Call of Duty formula in a fresh, yet familiar, way is jaw dropping. Take the way the campaign is laid out for example. You're doing missions on a cork board, and you're getting pieces of evidence that not only flesh out the individual characters more, but also lead to clues that can get you two optional missions. Not since Infinite Warfare have I seen a CoD campaign react to a player like this before, with a lot of little things the player can do to spice up their runs each time. Pair this with optional challenges to complete and multiple save files and endings to get, and you have THE best modern CoD campgin, hands down.

Multiplayer - 8.5/10

The multiplayer in Cold War is, unsurprisingly, great with the same addictive feedback loop to keep me playing matches for hours on end, even with one hour of sleep. It's great, the weapons feel great to use, and no weapon really feels overpowered. Now granted, I'm writing this review in 2023 after Cold War's multiplayer has changed a lot, but what is there is solid. The guns feel great, there's a TON of variety and customization in the Create a Class system, like always. Of particular note are Wildcards, kind of a tertiary perk that allows you to gain some pretty crazy ♥♥♥♥. This can range from having twice the grenades, to getting to take two primary weapons, and you can even take a second set of perks, or take all perks from the same category. In short, this multiplayer is insane and I love it. The only reason I'm not rating this a 10 too is because of the microtransactions. These are scummy. You're already having players pay 70 (In my case 30) dollars for Multiplayer access, it's kind of ridiculous to lock stuff behind season passes and CoD Points (Yuck). I know this is just how Activision does business, but it's a blight on what should otherwise be a great multiplayer experience. Oh and these weapons come with attachments that make them vastly superior to the base weapon so you basically pay for advantage. Again, it's not like this game breakingly strong but it's noticible enough that people will get frustrated by it, especially with the gimmick of tracer rounds.

I have not played the Zombies mode yet as of time of writing.

Honestly it's been a while since a game impressed me this much from a demo. Everything from the style to the soundtrack has impressed me so much that I immediately got a slacker backer tier as soon as I got done with the demo. PLEASE allow me to pay money for the wonderful game, and I really cant wait for the full thing to come out so I can sink hours and hours of my time into this game. As a fan of muse dash and other rhythm games, this is an easy recommend from me dog.
