I love this game but usually rage quit every now and then, but you know what I keep coming back to it. Mordheim is a turn based tactical game, where you aim to reach some tactical conditions for victory, or just go for the domination win. Think x-com but from a much closer perspective and with magic instead of technology. I love that there is no such thing as scum saving and you're basically in ironman mode without choice. I love that you get to progress the characters in your army, that they can pick up injuries along the way which is also reflected in their appearance, not just their stats. The thing that gets me is that the RNG can be brutal, not because it's stacked unfairly, but because it isn't. Some games you get absolutely caned but others you're the beneficiary, however if you've ever played a tabletop game with real dice, this can absolutely happen.

I remember when playing 40K once and I had orks with a shock attack cannon. I should have been smashed in this battle but I rolled double 6's to get the oppositions most dangerous group of units wiped off the matt in one go. Then my group of shootas, who only hit on a 6, smashed his hero because I rolled so many 6's and he rolled 1's for saving. It was unbelievable and if I wasn't there doing it myself I would have said cheating was involved. The thing is, that stuff can and does happen in real life and because there is no roll stacking it absolutely happens in this game too.

I just feel sometimes that I'm on the receiving end too much, which is a different experience to my brother, who has it more 50/50. Tactics will get you a long part of the way towards a victory, but there are sometimes when you feel heartbroken over one of your much loved characters getting a career ending injury, or simply getting death as the injury.

Absolutely recommend but not for those that like scum saving because there is none. Even if you Alt-F4 or power outage it still picks up where you left off. Be prepared for some hurt as your much loved character that you built up from Level 1 up to Level 10 and spend most of your money on dies on you.

What appears to be a complex puzzler is actually pretty simple in it's execution. Therein lies the beauty of it, getting simple things to perform many simple moves through your instructions to build some quite complex things. Can easily spend 10 minutes on a tricky puzzle or over an hour to get it just right.

The premise in alchemy but I like the construction and coding aspect of it. Quite rewarding to come up with a cheap design, or a fast design, or a compact design. There is no requirements for you to stick to a budget but I like the challenge or doing something as optimally as possible.

One of the challenges in optimising is to make sure you finish the product before you run out of code. It does repeat itself after one cycle of instructions but what if you hadn't quite finished? A trick I found is to code the finish at the start so when the second cycle starts it finishes off the first, can be tricky.

The good thing I like is that there are so many unique solutions, and that when you do solve a problem you see how you have done compared to everyone else in terms of cost, speed and area taken.

In all I would recommend this game, good for the person who likes to solve puzzles that is only really limited by your imagination
