Yes, the music in IV is lovely - and the Grassland theme is imho the one of the most beautiful music themes ever in any game.

No, I have actually never played any HoMM mod - but I have checked Celestial Heavens for suggestions and reviews, so that`s next, when I have finished VII - or - I might go back and play IV again ; your doing, making me remember the lovely music

I have several forum posts where I say the same, and every time people go crazy bombarding me with how hopeless those games are, and I obviously know nothing. There even was a guy suggesting I was paid by Ubisoft !
I agree with you about Ashan, and I am dissapointed they made the stories so unrecognizable - One thing I noticed especially in VII , is that suddenly they point out that there is no real evil or good; they are both the same .... - The HoMM stories has always been about good vs. evil ,- because, well, evil is evil, and good is good
But both VI and VII are great games, and there is no reason not to celebrate them and play them !
Lastly, I actually Love HoMM IV - I love all these games, including the the Chronicles
