Hand drawn art, original soundtrack, storytelling from multiple perspectives and a strategic turn based combat. I am quite enjoying the game and can't wait to give a more full review on the finished game.

Everyone remmebers their first....sometimes unforgettable, you get a lonely feeling when you're apart. When you part ways with your first, you think back on the good times you had. The hijinks you got up to. Like that one time you protected a city from an enemy invasion with very little for forces, but you succeeded and your after battle celebration carries on to the next day. You look over at you first, tell it how much it means to you, being your first true military strategic experience. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Well....here we are. In the Darkest Dungeon reviews....you're eyes scanning and looking for signs of hope in this wasteland that is Steam Game reviews. Sit, grab a cup of your favorite brew and please...listen to my tale. I ho0e that it might bring you a sense of fulfillment and hope, in these dark times.

Darkest Dungeon by Red Hook Studios is about as close to a dark eldritch horror game that you will ever get. It stands as a rogue like, turn based rpg, that in essence, isn't you trying to explore dungeons. No, it is you trying escape and fell these dark horrors that plague the land and your family.

I went into this game because it was an RPG and quickly learned that it is definitely part of the horror genre. You learn to not only manage your estate and mentally damaged heros, but you also learn which dark enemies you must overcome. Often times I found myself near the end of a dungeon and an enemy would pop up in a group of foes, one that I feared, one that I knew could easily turn the tide against my heroes.

Early game, I wasnt so experienced in managing my supplies, this enemy before me, would make the room darker, my heroes could no longer land a blow, the stress and horrors they endured in this battle was at a breaking point.

I look into the supplies, not a torch to be found. No hero abilties to increase light level....the darkness consumes my heroes. All but one hero dies. He receives his fair share of mental trauma and proceeds to die in the next dungeon because of the horrors he suffered from the first one.

Learn. Die. Repeat. Learn. Survive. Conquer. Conquer the darkness, bear your scars and lash out against the horrors that bear down on your family and heroes.

Upgrade their armor, fortify their minds and when needed, send them to the local pub to forget about the memories that haunt their nightmares.
Maintaining healthy heroes and making sure they have the proper tools to dungeon crawl will slowly but surely increase your odds of success.

The artwork by Red Hook also helps flesh out and make the world that much more terrifying and beautiful.

The sound track will suprise you and have you on the edge of your seat in tense battles on the fringe of insanity. The sound department knew what they were doing for this game. Every blow, death and scream hits home and the musical backdrop ensnares you in those pivitol moments.

Maybe I will update this review after I have finally beaten it, currently 50 hours in and about to do the last dungeon, The Darkest Dungeon. Stay safe out there, heroes.

Well, here we go. So I picked this game up after procrastinating getting sucked into another Harvest Moon-esk game, but I am sure glad I played this game. With an overwhelming variety of options okln how to run your farm and organize your characters lifestyle, this game provides a very open ended and expansive experience that allows the player to do pretty mich anything they want on their farm. The game also offers exploring the local mines for those like a simple combat system in order to kill monster and collect their parts. You can also learns spells! If you have some extra change from selling your CS:GO knoves or other in game items, pick this game up. I promise you wont be disappointed.

A game like this doesn't come along very often. A beautiful, heart wrenching and grueling story of survival as you struggle to make ends meet in a country that is stricken by war. This game makes you legitimately think about your decisions and the characters you are selecting to do them. Certain people snap under pressure and others are meant to revel in it. I believe that this game sets a standard for for future RPG surival games. With mupltiple game modes and quite a few characters to control this game not only provides you your own story each time but for even more play throughs after that. I enjoyed this game and I plan on playing it a couple more times. 10/10
