In it's current form, I would consider it unplayable. I tried the "fixes" purported by others, such as ".../steamapps\common\Mafia Definitive Edition\mafiadefinitiveedition.exe" %command% , turning off game mode, turning off the xbox bar, lowering settings, nothing I did stoped it from a stuttering every 3-5 seconds. I would love to give a real review of the game once I can play it, but I cannot put up with the constant stuttering.

Great game, lots of ways to play, 9/10 will lose at least another 100 hours once I get my friends to try 1.5 =P

500 additional hours later, still a great game,

Tl;dr It is worth the asking price of $5

I messed around, didn't look for any guides and other than 1 fox trap, I finished all the tasks they give you in ~6 hours (I probably could finish it again much faster, but it was a learning experience [took me a while to notice where to buy skills so progressing with level 1 attacks and limited water capacity definitely slowed me down]). At any rate, this game shows some promise, it could turn into an excellent deal if they keep building on the game, short term wish list would include:
change the shop, it's like a weird barter system that to me makes no sense (maybe instead have the animal/bird[seed production]/robot houses crafted in an inventory with items you can only get by bartering with one of the old men, I know it is a small difference, but to me it would make more sense than him just having an infinite amount of bird feeders and animal coops that he is willing to trade for food/processed garbage.)
I would also like a dodge mechanic (avoiding the shots from the robots just doesn't feel serious, just walk up to hit the robot, once you see the impact zone, walk on out) Including a dodge mechanic would let you decrease the amount of warning you give a player too which would make the combat feel more involved. Heck, if they want to cheese it with the animation, just have a dodge button shoot out water and have the character slide in a direction till you get the rig animated for a dodge roll or something
Long term increasing content is a biggie, maybe a town and a dungeon. I'm sure the devs have an idea where they want to take the game and it is, even in it's current state, worth $5 they are requesting. A real complaint that I have to agree with is the game has performance issues, that being the case, the game is in early access, and the devs should focus getting all mechanics in the game first before improving performance (a performance bug fix today could cause major issues with a new mechanic a year from now and be real hard to trace) so if you are concerned about performance, maybe shelf buying the game (but be prepared to spend more later, if they do well the price will probably go up)

This game shows a lot of promise! I played during the free weekend begining 10/10/2014 from what I have seen in the 9 hours I have played is sandbox that has a cool spin on the norm, I wish they would have descriptions while hoving over the items to show what they actually did, but sometimes its fun to learn from trial and error (sadly not so much while playing survival.) the tutorial videos could not keep my attention, having someone that doesn't sound very excited about what they are giving a tutorial on and over explain the simple things is a sure fire way to get me to stop within 3 minutes.

SO I set out on my adventure in open space after hearing about how to access the inventory amd how to toggle third person mode. I started in survival and decided to add enemies, my first round I did not fair so well, I flew around a bit and looked at the meteor my ship was crashed into (yes I chose the map and did not choose to quick play option, I was feeling adventerous) at any rate I quickly found out how to fly the ship and set out in my broken vessel. While I was singing merry tunes with my ghost crew (I assume they all died in the crash, maybe I killed them I do not know) suddenly a red icon appeared, and it said something to the effect of "mining vessel", so I thought to myself "OH! lovely, I might be able to procure some instrument that will allow me to mine ore from a meteor." so I headed toward them at full speed little did I know this mining vessel had a stockpile of munitions and were not reluctanant to use them (to anyone that has played this game please understand the tutorial did not keep my attention and when the title of the ship included something about mining I assumed a friendly). At any rate the initial fight did not kill me what did was when I was trying to remember what buttons to press and I ended up hitting a button that turned off the engines "Y" and then promptly hit the "T" button, this would not be so bad if I was not going at full speed and the ship decided to travel faster than I could turn around, I was quickly shot when outside my ship and decided I should restart my survival campaign.

Round 2: by this time I had realized I already was in possession of a tool to start mining, so this round I decided I would do that first. I quickly found I had picked up too many items so I went to the ship and and decided to see what was on it, from my last journey (I had tried all sorts of buttons) I learned I could look up the items on the ship from the control console, so I did that. and found the ship already had some goodies on it so I found the storage and added to it, eventually my interest came to Uranium for fuel, so I sought that out, I saw somewhere in the meteor there was uranium and I started to dig, after becomeing annoyed that all I could find was iron ore I decided it was time to move my ship, I moved it away from the asteroid, but not too far, and started playing around with the other tools I had on me (A Grinder and a Welder,) I soon found that my welder fixed the broken parts of the ship, which I thought was awesome. and decided to go back the the ship console to see what areas required work (I previously had noticed some giving errors) AH HA! THE SOLAR PANELS I saw were damaged, and thought I need to fix them, so I decided I would seek the required material to fix these solar panels, but sadly I did not see the material I required on the Meteor that my ship had crashed into, so I decided I would go to the nearest asteroid and mine there, and to prevent me from getting sidetracked I would leave my ship here! (it sounded like a great idea) at any rate I got lost, and couldn't find my ship or the asteroid, thankfully I did not a have an annoying robot telling me "DANGER!, DANGER!" but I was still, Lost In Space!

finally I tried out creative mode on an easy level and gave repairing the ships more of a look, it was fun, I could imagine being with friends while playing and trying to go out to repair something while we battled an enemy, my brother joined in the level and quickly made a ship, I thought it was a cool idea, build a ship!, ok lets do it, so I set out I started placing material and power sources and finally once I felt close enough to being finished I tried to fly it....... it didn't move ..... did I do something wrong? I start looking at the items I could choose from and noticed 3 buttons on the side of the menu "New Small Ship" "New Large Ship" and "New Space Station" ......................... DAMN IT! I knew I should have listened to the damn tutorial, that shows me. OK RETRY! remake a creative map, this time I will make a smaller ship and make sure I got it right, half way through I realized they had heavy armor and light armor, well of course I want heavy armor so I try to replace it all......... DANG IT, once I replace the armor touching the landing gear my ship starts to fall and anything else I try to add to it doesn't seem to want to be attached

I will not be detered from this, I eventually got the hang of Kerbal I can do this lol, so just as they say "third times the charm" I finally was able to make my own ship, I built a multi deck ship equiped with every single luxury I could find on the inventory tab in creative mode the vessel was equipped with 16 spot lights, 2 large reactors, 24 small reactors, 5 large thrusters, 32 small thrusters, 4 Gattling Turrets, 4 Missile Turrets and 6 rocket launchers , I even had an observation deck located beneath the bridge. At any rate I was feeling very accomplished so I go to the console and try to fly off, something is wrong ...... OH WAIT, I need to release the landing gear, and off I go. Not long after I set off do I see another mining vessel, and I think to myself "HA!, last time we met I was in a broken ship, with no weapons and the vessel was probably made out of inferior light armor, now I will be a force to be reckoned with!" ONCE AGAIN full speed ahead this time I know he will be foe and not friend, I get him in my sights and I fire my rockets.... oh snap I was going too fast, I just blew up my own rocket launchers ...... whoops, OH WELL! I STILL HAVE MY TURRETS, so I swing around to unleash hell!.. (OR what I tought would be unleashing hell, the mining vessel quickly destroyed most of my turrets then went on to destroy over half of my thrusters and 1 of my large reactors) but it matters not, for ... I SURVIVED!!!! I did not die, or lose my ship, I lived, and was able to complete enough repairs to get me and my vesself safely back to the meteor with the base that I had spawned at, I was lucky there was not dignitaries on the observation deck, it and the bridge were basically destroyed, but I rebuilt I added 3 times as many turrets of each kind and 6 times as many rocket launchers if I ever play again (and I am considering buying it) I will hope to slay at least one vessel.
