Pretty easy but enjoyable because of how different it is.

Also, don't use that consumable die to give yourself a 6th die, it crashes the game instantly lmao.

Overall this game is very well polished and has really enticing game-play. I'd say close to a 9/10 based on game play and art design alone.

However, comparing this game to other rogue likes, it doesn't have anywhere near the replay-ability.
There are 4 difficulty modes, all of which are accessible from the start. This is fine in regular games, but generally not done in rogue likes. This is due to the fact that replaying the game is the entire point, so you have to have some level of increasing difficulty to keep the game fresh.

This game has the same problem with Crying Suns (which is also a fantastic game I recommend), is that its time is limited, and that’s by design. You can play this game 16 times, and then you’ve beaten it. Crying suns took me 15 hours to complete, this game will probably take me 20, and that’s if I care enough to get the achievements.

If you aren’t used to Rogue-likes, or are a more casual gamer, then this game will be right in your niche. If you are a high difficulty gamer and want an ascension system like you’d see in many other rogue-likes, this game will start feeling grindy and easy very quickly.

Overall, however, the time I spent on this game was very enjoyable, easy 8/10.
Also check out Crying Suns; very similar in theme, though very different in gameplay.

Fantastic little game. Too Few games use dice mechanics in an interesting way, and this is certainly one of them that do it well.

The Demo felt like a demo, without a wide berth of content, but for what it was it was very good at showing the basics of the game.

I played through one game, and it took me about 40 minutes, where it felt just perfect. Roughly good difficulty to start, maybe a bit easy, but then again i have many hours in many roguelikes.

Very solid game with many interesting ideas. Only negative is it might not be super long, but i've already played 8 hours and haven't gotten through most of it. Maybe a 30-40 hour game right now.

I came to Boltgun with the expectation of a Warhammer themed Boomer Shooter, and that's what i got. However, unlike every other boomer shooter i've tried, Boltgun just didn't do it for me. The maps all feel and look repetitive, and getting confused at the layout was a relatively common occurrence. It varied from linear hallways connecting large expansive main rooms that i can't navigate, all without a map to help navigate it.

I'll give it that the guns had their niche. Some enemies were so much easier to fight with certain guns than others which was nice to see, however i didn't care for how most of the guns played. I literally never used the shotgun, barely used the heavy bolter, and used the plasma on elites even though it has a minimum range and the delay after firing made me swap to my bolter and shoot a goon only to point blank myself with an unswapped plasma.

about halfway through the first act i had all but decided it wasn't worth my time, but i thought i might as well try to finish the game. Every mission afterwards i found myself visiting it and then saving not 20 minutes later and quitting. There are so many better Boomer Shooters that will scratch the same itch and bring something innovative to the genre, where Boltgun just seems like a bog standard Boomer Shooter with nothing to make it unique other than the IP. And yet, with an IP as expansive as 40k, the enemy types still feel repetitive and non-diverse.

Overall, i'd rate the experience a 5/10. Barely worth my time. Add a map and more diverse enemies, and make better maps... Would recommend Project Warlock a go before this game, among other more classic titles.

Unfortunately in the state it is in, it is not a wholly fulfilling experience. I believe the base idea and execution is well done, however it is very limited as of now.

My major problem is just how there is very little difficulty on the game until you get caught out in a bad position and die instantly from full health with nearly nothing to do once you recognise your error. This to me simply is a kink the game play that needs to be ironed out, by adding something like a dash or other abilities that let you mitigate theses errors. The fact that 80% of my runs end suddenly doesn't make me feel like i need to get better at the game, but more just have a better spawn RNG.

If i lose in a roguelike, i want it to feel like it was my fault. This game doesn't do that, or does so in a way that makes me want to stop playing rather than go for another run.

Fun game though new characters might make it a bit easy. Hope they add new difficulty mods.

Straight up downgrade in every manner except one from Monster Hunter Worlds. MHW isn't even that great of a game to begin with, so a step down from that is really bad.

Why are the menus so bad?
Why is trying to get into the same hunt so hard and tedious? They had it so good in Worlds and then made it worse here.
How are games allowed to have absolutely terrible PC ports like this and get away from it?
Who QC'd the default button layouts? Why are half of them the literal worst places you could put the,?
Why do my attack chains continue from where i last moved and not towards my camera? i have to dodge to rotate its actually insanely bad.

Every time i play this game i mald about something. If this was the first rendition of the game on PC it'd be somewhat excusable, but how many games has this been and they keep getting the same things wrong over and over?
