This is a cautious recommendation. The game is overall, quite fun, but I would definitely not recommend it as your first total war experience. The realms of Chaos campaign is a tedious nightmare, and you get absolutely nothing for your efforts. However, this would be fixed by giving the player worthwhile rewards for completing the campaign, as well as making it so the rifts stop spawning once you beat the final boss. The graphics, sound design, and overall Empire building experience are all really well done. The new factions are all quite interesting as well, all though the main things that make the Chaos factions interesting is their campaign mechanics rather than their roster.

Overall, I would give this game a 7.5/10. If you are new to Total War Warhammer, get Warhammer 2 instead, but if you are sick of Warhammer 2, this game will be a good time.

I will add that once Mortal Empires comes out, I will probably up this to a 9/10.

This game is one of the most rewarding challenges I have ever come across. The first 10 times or so, I got absolutely creamed on the easiest difficulty. However, I kept playing because each time I lost, I learned something new about how I can win next time. Each game I play, I get a little bit better, and find it to be immensely satisfying that there is no real "luck" element here, whether you win or lose is entirely dependent on how well you prepare for upcoming challenges. I am now qorking through the "normal" difficulty, and should soon be able to progress to the next level, and every set-back is still rewarding. The alt-histories are quite enjoyable too, just to play around with ideas like the Kaiser coming back to rule the German Empire.

Tl;dr very steep learning curve, but wicked fun to master and play through alt-histories. Solid 9/10 experience.
