Pretty fun game, probably more enjoyable if you liked Prometheus. If you have a group of friends to play with I would say that elevates it even more, although multiplayer didn't seem to work fluidly for me till I beat the game and was able to unlock the "find game" button, I also had severe hitching till I stuck it on my nvme drive, which didn't make it perfect but it was nearly unplayable for me on mechanical HD (this only affected multiplayer however).

If your going solo the game will give you bots - they are good enough generally.

My first 2 runs were pretty short as I was figuring things out but I did really well on about my 3rd time through and died at the very end and I have to say I was a bit salty. So salty that I never played the game again haha.

I didn't know about using lore points (when you finish you get rewards you can spend for permanent unlocks) which almost made me want to play again, but the runs in this game are a significant time investment (at least vs what I'm used to) for a rouge-like and this game is pretty anxiety inducing for me, as this game has a time mechanic and it seems like your screwed if you fall behind, so you may see cool things that you want to do but I always felt like it was a bad idea to pursue them, since the game is already at times infuriating with RNG and I wasn't about to take on more negatives by falling behind on time.

I may sound overly critical but I just had to get that out of the way. It's hard to say this game is great because of the aforementioned problems, but regardless I love what they are doing here with this blend of turned based RPG/Rouge-like. I've never seen anything like it and it is fun to experience, just prepare to have your soul crushed at times.

Wish I could have played co-op. It's easier to die with a friend I bet!

I had tons of fun with this back in the day and I'm sure it's still probably fun to this day, but I recommend a friend to play along with. It's still good but just a bit lonely solo. Just a great blend of Tower defense along with active player involvement.

I sunk tons of hours into this because the co-op was fun and the community was generally nice and helpful and I loved making alts and leveling them up to see how they played since there was a decent variety. This game just had some magic to it that I don't think has ever been fully replicated, although things like Orcs must die and sanctum are pretty fun as well, this game has tons of loot which makes it a similar but also completely different beast.

I love the game of football but don't really care about the nfl in general, I used to play a lot of Madden/NFL2k back in the day purely for the Dynasty/Franchise modes and this really scratches that itch without being overly time consuming. I love building a team from lowly rookies to a stacked team - It turns the game play from pure sports to something more in depth and RPG-ish and your own personal story begins to flesh out as you advance your players and your team.

as for the downsides...

Even after developing a great team that is highly skilled you are never actually safe in a game - this is both a fun aspect and one of the things that make me almost rage, because you will sometimes get slaughtered by low level teams that seem to intercept every pass, win multiple onside kicks, get a fumble when they really need one, the list goes on and on with the cheese you will be subjected to and yes sometimes you can get the cheese right back on them, but sometimes you will get caught in a massive avalanche of cheapness that is just unbelievable. Generally speaking I usually just deal with it but as I wrap up my playtime with this one I need to get a few more achievements so I call a "dirty play" called alt-f4 when I need to.

Anyway, all the good outweighs the bad by a bunch, can't wait for MFL 2 because there is a ton of room for improvement.

Early Access Review
bought this game and played about 3 hours straight and got my money's worth already. I really liked Vampire survivors as well, which is a similar style game, but I give this game the edge since I love the idea of being a necromancer, the game's aesthetic in general and being able to slightly customize the map by buying helpful items/traps you can use. I also like that this game is slightly easier to get into than vampire survivors - as that game can be brutal with RNG some times IMO, while this one seems to at least give me some hope every run especially once you have unlocked some of the upgrades which you will unlock at a good pace.

favorite game of all time with threewave ctfs mod, played it for around a decade with probably an unfathomable amount of hours logged, thankfully permanent hour tracking wasn't really around back then :p I don't know if you can find online games anymore but I would still probably find enough fun with bots for a few hours play considering it only costs a few dollars on sale. As for Single player - There is no story you just fight in a tournament till you win or you can pick a map and fight. Also great for LAN if you can get people together. Getting this game running can be a wonky experience sometimes, you'll need to probably research how to set up your config (using notepad) for a modern system.

I never played the rough launch this game had, but always kept my eye on it as a space based sci-fi fan. Picked it up for the Mass Effect Expedition and had a great time and they just keep patching it and making it better. There is lots to do and see and even the engine that this runs off of is pretty impressive in itself. Had to watch a good amount of youtube to learn the game mechanics and just general strategies for advancing. The game isn't overly hard once you learn what you are doing and things that seemed hard often have a better/easier way of doing that you just didn't know about.

Basically my childhood dream game, but you'll definitely want to get into the mods. I've moved onto Bannerlord but this is still a great game and usually sells for peanuts, as a note I put way more hours in a non steam version - and never even touched some of overhaul mods that are praised. I just used Floris to enhance the base game.

a classic by now, that still is fun today. Despite being a multiplayer game with no real story the personality they injected to the characters is also just top notch and makes the game even better.

If you haven't played it yet, you should.

If you enjoyed the series before you'll love this and it is a perfect time for newcomers to join. I love this series for its gameplay - it is tower defense, but you get to fight too, along with plenty of upgrades and trap variety to keep it fresh.

If you have played dungeon defenders it is very similar, but no loot, in its place you collect skulls for completing maps and upgrade your traps, weapons and trinkets.

Highly recommend to try it if you never have. Fun with Co-op too.
