OMG!! The shadow-casting dynamic lights in the early 2000s.. those were the days..

There are no words to describe what it felt like playing this again after 20 years and being overwhelmed by that old school dungeon crawl feeling! For veteran gamers this is a cult classic, a hidden gem, pure nostalgia! Young players will most likely find fault with the somewhat clunky combat and a bland looking level design, and I would certainly agree that not enough has been done to modernise the re-release, but then again, look at the bright side: it has all the old game's quirks and charms, so if you want to take a journey back in time and see what it felt like playing proto-Dark Souls action RPGs at the start of the millenium, then I suppose you can give it a go. It's definitely worth it. As they say, old but gold! Enjoy.

If you’re also one of those dinosaur enthusiasts who already spent a lot of time with Blue Tongue’s 2003 Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and always hoped for a worthy successor, then Jurassic World Evolution is definitely a game you need to get on!

The cloning and care aspect in this game is amazing, and the many dinosaurs you can create from DNA samples and release into the park are gorgeous. Extending from the Early Jurassic Dilophosaurus to the terminal Cretaceous T-rex, the roster could indeed be a bit more diverse, especially in terms of the vastly underrepresented Gondwanan taxa, or the completely lacking Triassic dinosaurs. Nevertheless, the more than 40 different species you can choose from are still an enjoyable mix and they all have their own specific behavioral-ecological system you need to give attention to in order to ensure their health and happiness. Aside from their basic food and water needs, the dinosaurs can vary greatly in terms of their preferred habitat, enclosure size and the other species they can coexist with peacefully. This part of the gameplay is great. However, the depth of a number of other park building aspects still leaves a great deal to be desired: small decoration objects such as information and catering stands, restrooms or rocks would be very nice, not to mention more elaborate terraforming options or a couple more structures like the popular hot air balloon platforms to theme out and customize the park even further. Also, the Mosasaur water arena or the Pterosaur aviary and also a number of iconic dinosaur species such as the African Ouranosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus are sadly missing, and those would be a blast if they include them in a future DLC!

All in all, there is certainly a bell curve regarding fun and motivation with JW Evolution . Starting as an exciting park management enterprise, it will eventually bring you to a point where you have researched every technology available, completed all genomes and built everything you can, and then it’s basically just about micromanagement and watching tons of money pour in. Therefore, it remains to be hoped the guys at Frontier take the potential for improvements and crank out even more expansion packs with new features. Regardless of the shortcomings and little weaknesses, I still think JW Evolution is one of the most amazing games of 2018 and it definitely has a lot of untapped potential for awesome expansions in the future.
