Did you really enjoy the original Gratuitous Space Battles? Well if you did, you are going to LOVE Gratuitous Space Battles II.

https://youtu.be/HxLtmv8vLjc
I have been enjoying the Beta over the last few weeks and have finally had the chance to try the full release today (April 16, 2015).

Without a doubt, GSB II is pretty much a remake of the original with a variety of new key features and graphical upgrades. It includes what the original base game included; A main campaign, with an assortment of ship variants and weapons immediately available to you. You will then design new ships, place them on the battlefield using a limited number of command points, then push the "Fight" button to watch your ships fight for your honor. If you win the fight, you can use any unspent command points to then purchase new weapons, devices, armors, shield systems, hulls, and even a brand new race to fight your future battles. All of this hasn't changed from the original.

What has changed is:

► The ability to fully customize your ships with the visual editor. I must say that it is pretty darned good. It's not perfect, but it does allow layers, lighting and even moving parts.
► New command for your ships and fleets, including formations
► New size classes
► Amazing visuals
► New modules and ship rules like fighter bays for carrier ships
► online features like the ability to challenge your friends (I cannot verify this yet as I have not been able to test it yet)
► Modding support at launch!

Although I have experienced a couple crashes here and there even with the full release version 1.23, the game seems to run pretty well even at the max settings. That being said, it is really quite pretty and the sound track is amazing.

This needs to have more content overall in order for it to become as relevant as the original. In particular I would like to see a strategic campaign like the original had added to it back in the day that allowed you manage your whole empires economy in a galactic conquest. Make that multiplayer somehow, and this would blow the roof off the pc.

All in all, it’s fun and satisfying to watch your ships crush the enemy for what appears to be, no reason what-so-ever.

Disclaimer: I have not been given anything in return for this review. I purchased the Beta from the GBS II website in February 2015.

Fly safe!

Not everyone remembers the relevance of Saturday morning cartoons, but for those of us who do, this will bring you back to a place of big fluffy blankets, pop tarts, and filthy snot nosed cartoon brats!

Regardless of all that, what we have here is the newest version of a classic rogue-like top down space shooter by Pixelsaurus Games.

Although this is the first day of early access, the game is highly functional. As a matter of fact, I have yet to see any "bugs" per say, although I am sure some exist. It has a campaign that is fully functional, however I have not yet reached the higher levels of difficulty, and, of course, have not seen if the end game is yet available.

The game itself is a top down space shooter where you can (and must) destroy and loot parts from your enemies in order to keep moving up the levels toward your final destination, Pluto. The enemies are procedurally generated and therefore differ every time you start a game. I know it sounds very simple, but the real depth of this lies in your ability to attach modules to your ship on the fly and build well.... pretty much anything you can imagine. Every part you put on your ship and where you put it affects everything about it.

You will start games, win fights, and eventually lose. (most likely losing far from your goal) That's where you can make upgrades to your ship, beyond even your modules by spending "money" you earn from destroying enemies. So, even in losing you are able to earn a new beginning with "perks" for your efforts. Thus making the game hard to put down, even when it's beating you down pretty hard.

The only thing that I might criticize, and this is subjective, of course; The music and the theme can feel a bit childish. Something I easily overcame, by trying to appreciate the characters in the cartoons from my youth, and well... the music can be turned down.

This is one of those titles that is not only extremely enjoyable to play, but I also know that these types of games have an evolutionary significance on the future of the block building games of the future. I hope to see some multiplayer versions of this someday.

As with all of my YouTube Featured games, I did purchase this title and was not provided anything by the developer for the promotion of Captain Forever Remix.

Play hard Guys and Gals!

Where to begin?

I have been playing and producing TerraTech videos since October 2014.

The moment I gazed at what Payload Studios had begun to materialize, it dawned on me that this could be the most innovative and creative game in the years to come. The only way to explain how far it has come is to look back at my original let's play videos, but this is not about looking back, it's about looking forward to what is, potentially, on the horizon for us.

Imagine an progressive open world vehicle and structure block building game with moving parts allowing you to build just about any vehicle or structure you can imagine and have it instantly functional WITHOUT the necessity of a "garage" or "build mode". Everything you do in TerraTech is "on the fly" and does not require you to stop playing so that you can build or customize your vehicles and structures. This feature alone makes this completely unique from any other vehicle combat game currently in existence. Include the ability to create flying vehicles, fully customize bases, harvest resources, and activate an army of AI controlled minions to do your bidding, TerraTech then has the potential to be the best combat based block building game ever.

The game is not finished obviously, and there is much to be done for it to accomplish all of the above really well, but it s still playable and fun. Even after messing around with the newest version, there is a number of things that need to get ironed out right away. So, if you are picking this up now, be aware that you will experience all manner of minor and major bugs. Not to mention, the sounds are still very 8-bit casual, and the soundtrack, although enjoyable, has only one track so far and it can become a little... repetitive.

Multiplayer is absent here, but it is a promised feature and I would not consider this a finish product until that becomes a reality, so I am crossing my fingers on that one. In the mean time there is a way to "invade" other people’s games with your creations via twitter, but it is not a directly interactive way to play with other players yet...

I would highly recommend picking up the Early Access version of TerraTech if you wish to support the development process. If you want all of those features now, perhaps wait a while, but I do believe in the Payload Studios team simply based on their passion and current rate of game development.

I am in no way affiliated with Payload Studios and I have not been given anything. I personally purchased the product in October 2014.

Thanks for reading!

Upon trying this out, I really did not know what to expect. At first, however, I found myself a little lost in this strangely organic world that is somewhere in the far reaches of space.

It doesn't take long for you to realize that you are not alone, and, in fact, you have a whole faction that shares your own desire for expansion in the untamed universe. Unlike many in this loose genre, you fight side by side with your AI friends from beginning to end.

Make no mistake, this is, at it's core, a block building game, where you build your spaceship, and can build fleets of custom ships to fight with you or just let them loose to go it on thier own. Where they will build more ships of thier own and fight the good fight for the faction gathering resources and growing your empire just like yourself. In many ways, when I play this I feel like just another small, but important, peice of a larger hive doing my part. Although I would like to think that I might contribute a little more than my AI companions, I hope.

In Reassembly, you will explore, expland, exploit, and exterminate. Yes, this is, in fact, a 4X game, hidden underneath a very well crafted version of a top down space shooter.

The more I play, the more I want to play, and I find myself losing time. It's worth the money.

Boss Constructor is like taking Spaz, Gratuitous space battles, and FTL and mashing them all together. Although it is still fairly early, the game promises to be the next great space shooter.

I found myself losing time in combat and losing even more time editing my space-fairing creations. The developer has already put in about 4 patches (after only one week) and when I did have some trouble with some CTD's, he immediately sent me the instructions to fix it.

So far, I like what I see, and I can't wait for more new ship parts to shove into the the evovler!

I rarely write reviews, but I MUST contribute here.

Where to begin! Well... I’ve probably put in over 1000 hours of play into this glorious gem over the years. Incredibly detailed slider control over just about every relevant aspect of a country. You can micro-manage just about everything. Such as, determining exactly which natural resources to exploit, how much money goes into building infrastructure, and which religion you want to convert your population too. Not a big fan of micromanagement? No problem! let the AI handle the areas you don’t want to bother with. Every decision matters and can have huge consequences. Take control over military research, including nuclear arsenals, naval, and land. Battles on land and sea have neat little animation scenes.

Nuclear conflicts are VERY satisfying. Reminds me fondly of the War Games movie in the 90s.

The game is a bit dated now, but still looks and feels nice on a new PC. Unfortunately does not support high resolutions but, once you get past this, it’s worth every penny and every minute in playtime.

There is really something quite satisfying about turning Gaza Strip and the West Bank into a global superpower! Or perhaps you would like to nuke Canada? Then this is for you.
