(2019) I've been following this game since Kickstarter, got my copy from Humble Bundle as it was not on Steam at the time. But sadly, Riot Games bought Radiant (whom is owned by Tencent) and the developers got tired of working on it and have since moved on to other things.

(2016) If you've ever wanted to create a village/kingdom with control over crafters and defenders, farmers and the sizes of farms, locations and the ability to move those fields. This is for you.

First let me start with the cons -
1) This is Alpha and does not represent the end product.
2) It's not finished yet and has bugs.

And now the pros in my opinion -
1) Ability to set where you want to start your village.
2) Ability to determine who is right for the jobs available.
3) Ability to change jobs of your Hearthlings (townsfolk).
4) Ability to custom build any building and save the template.
5) Ability to place stockpiles inside of buildings for protection against raiders.

There are many game aspects that I have not listed, but I hope I have at least touched up on some important deciding factors for potential backers. I love the game and can't wait for the release.

Alpha 14 Update -

There has been a lot of new content and improvements since my initial review.

New enemies, new jobs - herbalist (that makes potions and bandages for healing and buffs), cook (self explanatory).

New crafting stations which allow a more unique look and feel to your crafters including more crafting options, more armor, weapons, decorations.

They still have a lot more planned and coming, they still do their Desktop Tuesday so be sure to check it out!

It is now possible to have saves from previous versions.

They removed private sessions, friend only sessions and crew only sessions. If you want to play, you have to deal with hackers. No longer recommended.

The game can be fun, has random odd moments to make it entertaining. You can change your outfit, but not custom color. You can change skins on guns. You can have so many guns that it takes forever to swap to the one you want to use.

The game likes to make you swap into a completely different weapon when you enter or exit a vehicle at times.

It will also dislike you for aiming a weapon then changing the weapon while aiming, as it will either lock the weapon, or just zoom in at bad times. aka poor control outside of vehicles.

Trolls and hackers can be avoided by going into story mode and pressing P to pause, then P again for the menu, select online, then select online friends only or crew only to avoid trolls and hackers (after you finish the prologue aka tutorial)

The one major downfall of this game is the absolute ♥♥♥♥ control when you are not in a vehicle.

Third person, first person, it does not matter. The controls outside of vehicles is god awefully painful and overly stupified.

If it weren't for the other qualities, I would downvote this game over the stupid controls outside of vehicles.

I cannot stress it enough, the controls match that of putting one hand behind your back, crossing your eyes, tie your laces together and sprint down a hallway.

Also, online mode limits what you see, aka no nudity, clothed strip bars and prostitutes, you can't have a female character with a nice body, just default crap.

Why do I recommend it then? Driving, blowing things up, running people over. You know, old school Grand Theft Auto, the simple things.

DO NOT BUY THE TANK. It is a paperweight and does not behave like a tank should, i.e. it drives exactly like a car, and can be thrown around just as easily. The turret will cause the tank to fly if it hits a wall or a pole, stub or tree.

Some poles can be driven over with any vehicle, other poles, or smaller objects, will stop any vehicle dead.

Aircraft, they fly poorly and not nearly as fast as you would think they should be.

In online mode, things are extremely expensive. You want your car to have bullet proof tires? $25,000. You want a low rider? Prepare to fork over $500,000 if you want it fully customized. $300,000 minimum.

Ranking up aka leveling, can take a long time, and I'm not sure what the max rank is, over 300 I believe.

The Dubsta 6x6 vehicle that unlocks at rank 100 is terrible in every regard, go with a Sandking instead.

Many other vehicles to use. Also, you cannot steal and sell or keep "high end" cars, aka the good ones. You have to purchase those legally. Does it make sense? Not a bit. But it's there.

Certain vehicles, such as the tank, all aircraft and some specialty vehicles like a limo, bus, delivery truck, etc. Cannot be customized or colored and are stored in a warehouse (Pegasus) and must be "rented out" for $100 everytim you want to use it as you cannot store them in your garages.

Garages are ten cars maximum. You can have up to five I believe. Every garage or apartment you "rent" costs utilities and mechanic fees, those go up per property and are charged every day.

If you like to drink or hit that bong, you also must pay a weekly cleaning fee.

At this point it looks like more bad than good. But outside of all that crap, is a fun game. Just, avoid the crap and it will be more fun.

If your game crashes a lot, you will need to tweak the settings for your machine, it varies per specification. Even if your graphics card says you can handle it (nVidia) does not mean it's a good idea, you will have choppy game play and under 14 FPS in some areas.

The area to roam is huge and varies in terrain, from desert to tropics, during certain holidays they have snow, you can pick up snow balls and throw them at people to kill them or damage vehicles.

At 5 stars, no mlitary is called on you, so don't worry about that.

There is a prison and a fort, you get too close and it's instant four stars.

Dev is back, working on the game to fix bugs. So far I like the changes.

Once you get the last tech, it's all about out spamming your enemies.

You have to find ammo, on their home planet, and it's scarce.

You want to fly? Short ceilings and cramped spaces.

The new update added some much needed quality of life improvements.

If you're a fan of previous Settlers titles, do yourself a favor and avoid this.

They took the good things of Settlers and replaced them with horrid, crappy, ugly things.

See my time played? I spent all of that time in the design your keep mode. As it's the only fun thing about the game.

Forced one direction boss fights, clunky gameplay, terrible AI.

Dead giveaway that the game is bad - only shows a CGI cutscene.

Updated for Release -

The UI is clunky and a severe pain to navigate, pressing the ESC key goes directly to main menu (pause), backspace key to deselect, the AI will walk around the crystal making it difficult to select one bricktron.

The UI is a lot like a website from the 1990's, to get to where you want to go, you have to select sub catagories within sub catagories just to build a stockpile. I would add screenshots to show this, but you would be looking at a mess of 5+ screenshots and I guarantee you would not be able to spot the buttons.

The worst thing about that, is you spend so much time trying to navigate the menus that the timer ticks down, so any mode outside of creative is time lost.

You cannot do anything aside from navigate the main menu in pause mode. When making changes, the options must be applied at the very bottom of the screen, and it is split between left and right bottom.

The help menu is not updated to reflect the most recent UI, causing nothing but confusion. You can navigate the help menu while in-game, since you can't pause it in-game to read it, it just opens the in-game side bar that counts against visual space, and the timer.

I waited nearly three years for this since the last review, and I must say, it's too frustrating to get anything done with these unintuitive keybindings.

Which raises another serious issue, the keybindings. You can't change what the ESC or BackSpace keys do. So you have to fight against age old traditions of using ESC to cancel\clear commands, then hit ESC again to go to a menu/pause, or you'll just hit the pause/menu screen.

Good news is, you can still use ESC to deselect/clear commands, but it will take you straight to the pause menu.
