Great start for a game I believe will only continue to get better. This game is exactly what 40k is about. Looks great and runs well.

Edit: The release felt rough. Is there some negativity directed towards this game? Yes. Is it deserved? Yes. Is the game still worth buying? Yes. Is it the 40K FPS you've been dreaming about since you were a kid? Oh yeah. 100%. Many of the negative reviews are coming from people that have put 40+ hours into the game already and they are complaining about lack of content. Walking around the "Space Rig" (yes I have hundreds of hours in DRG) you can see the devs have a lot of unopened doors and empty locations for additions to the game. If you played Deep Rock in the first year of early access, Darktide feels like that. The core game is absolute gold. Do I agree with people saying it feels like an early access game? Yes.

Darktide is going places. It's just a matter of time. They have some work to do but it's worth every penny already.

Unique. If you are looking for something that feels fresh this is it. It is very slow paced and you will read a good amount. Yes, Vagrus is difficult. Save yourself some frustration and look up some starting tips and tricks. Don't do what I initially did and live paycheck to paycheck going between a couple towns until some random raid of beasts killed everyone. There's a method. It's SUPPOSED to be a game about scraping by as a trader in a harsh world. Barely making it to the next town should happen for the early weeks of the game. Getting stuck going broke and dying a couple times felt right. Plan right and you escape that cycle. That's what this game is about.

I like my games. They are nice break from life. This isn't a game. It doesn't give you a break from life. If you are interested in playing a work of art then buy this game. Honestly, I hated this game when I bought it but I couldn't bring myself to ask for a refund. I played other more immediate and in your face games. I want to be distracted, talk trash with my friends..Etc. Disco Elysium stared at me, below my "favorites", like a sad dog wanting me to play with it again. I hate this game because, when you play it the way you might take in a great work of art, it will throw daggers at your own reality. Disco Elysium is a very unique experience that takes as much patience as getting through the first 100 pages of a good novel. It's a slow burn.

Early Access Review
I picked this game up and put it back down over the course of the past year. One day, it just clicked. Very awesome and unique experience but one that requires some time and patience to learn the ropes. The tutorials are very helpful but at some point you have to just start fixing things when everything goes horribly wrong. The people that say this game is very unforgiving are correct. It's brutal. That is what makes it such an awesome game.

Imagine, some of the explosives you are transporting are unstable and 5 minutes into you voyage, they explode and gut the sub from the inside out. You are sinking to the sea floor and there are creatures swarming, attracted by the sound. Slowly, everyone from your 4 man crew dies except for the mechanic who, while running low on oxygen in a pressurized suit, fends off the creatures and welds the hull back together. You power the reactor back up, slam a couple oxygen tanks into the oxygen generator and proceed to fix the rest of the ship. Eventually, you limp back to a station. 10/10.

That's how you learn to play the game. There is a learning curve that will have you frustrated and wondering why you bought the game at first. Once you figure out the basics, the true beauty of this game starts to reveal itself and layers of possibility open. You will find that the multiplayer experience will be a chaotic mess at times so dont be surprised when someone shoots you in the back when you are trying to fix the engine. I recommend joining the discord and finding a serious group and/or getting some friends together to play through a campaign.

Great game. Requires more patience than most games to breach the "what the hell am I doing layer" but more than worth it if you enjoy a hardcore game that is trying to kill you at the slightest mistake.

I spent a few years trying to commit to this game. The first couple attempts ended in frustration and confusion. When I finally put the work in and figured out how to play Stellaris, it is one of the most rewarding games I've ever played.
