Wolcen is a game with a lot of potential that will never be realized. The game was held up in releasing the final chapter of the game for an extremely long time trying to fix the issues with the game, and then the studio ran into money problems got purchased by another company and the pushed out a pretty buggy product. Given the circumstances this looks like a move to push something not quite ready to market to grab as much cash as possible before it inevitably disintegrates. Which means we can reasonably expect that no further funds will be sunk into fixing the game. Which is a shame because the game does have something to offer.

There are no classes. The game offers a few different types of skills which can be equipped based on what weapons or other things the characters hold in their hands, or sometimes other pieces of special equipment. Magic skill draw from mana which funnels energy into rage and physical skills use rage funneling it into mana over interesting options for purist or hybrid builds.

I personally liked that there was an active doge. Even though I drew up on Diablo/Diablo 2 I just can't play these types of games anymore without it. Most of the loot isn't particularly noteworthy, although I felt the uniques were interesting enough and build enabling and I liked that there was leveled versions of the uniques for every item level after the level they are introduced meaning incorporating one into your build wasn't an eventual death sentence as you could find a leveled up version of it later. The special modifiers like those from Wrath of Sarisel felt powerful and worth chasing after. While it was somewhat nice in the endgame to have the option of increasing item quality and rarity, it did feel like it took some of the wind out the sails as far as motive for pursuing the grind. I did however, appreciate how the game facilitates respeccing with low cost if new gear or new challenges call for it. It felt like I had a lot of freedom to change the direction I was going in on the fly.

The endgame mode however doesn't feel particularly interesting, consisting of setting tasks to improve item quality or get some reagents or a selection of items and then going on a run through a level to progress time to complete them. It really needs some sort of events or something to feel like what you are doing matters or the illusion of earning gear for more than just the sake of earning that gear. This along with numerous very obvious bugs, (some even game breaking) to the feeling of an incomplete unfinished game, one that looks to never see any more completeness then it already has. As such I cannot recommend this game at this time.

Very fun 4-person/AI table-top style turn-based strategy game with nice visuals and a quick pace. The characters are mostly balanced and offer a wide range of strategy options. Luck plays a big part in the outcome of the game, but experienced still offers a significant advantage also.
