Natural Selection 2 is an interesting beast of game development. I started playing when it was still in the beta so I was there before they added the exo and the onos. I remember when that game lacked a minimap in the bottom corner of the screen and the fade teleport was clunkier than heavy machinery.

It is my most played game on steam. I have watched it start out as an atmospheric team game with interesting mechanics and play style options. I have experienced the game be ground into a pulp of arcadey mechanics and single best strategies with no real option for variation.

After one year of waiting for improvement, patch after patch, seeing things get worse. I've given up. If you get the game cheap, you may enjoy it somewhat but know this: Natural Selection 2 is a husk of the game it once was.
