I reviewed this game back at launch, and I couldn't recommend it then because it was horrendously unbalanced in your favour. I'm happy to say, there've been major updates to that and I no longer feel immortal when running through missions. It's still fairly easy to build pretty overpowered characters, but nowhere near as bad as it was and enemies always seem to be a threat.

Anyway, onto the review;

Everything in Mechanicus looks and feels 40k.
- You play as a group of fanatical worshippers of the Machine God, marching into Alien territory to purge your enemies and gain knowledge in the name of the Omnissiah.
- You have weapons that are so stupidly over-the-top that you can't help but smile when using them, sending flurries of plasma through the air or setting everything on fire.
- You either solve problems by praying them away or blowing them up.

Everything about this game is perfect;
It looks brilliant, it sounds brilliant, it plays brilliant, the menus are super simple and easy to navigate, the characters are all interesting and funny, and the general way the game feels is perfect.

The variety and customisation with weapons and equipment is phenomenal, and the way you upgrade and equip characters is as simple as it could be; the better gear costs more "Augmentation points" to equip, and the Techpriests gain an Aug Point every time they level up. Every piece of equipment is fully modelled too, so you see it on your characters, and it even goes where you put it.

Playing through this again, I didn't appreciate just how perfect the Soundtrack was. You're a group of fanatic worshippers; Let's put Pipe Organs and Gregorian Chanting in the music. You're also part of the Machine-Cult of Mars; Let's mix some electronic bits and dubstep in there.
I can only describe it as "Techno-Church" and it fits perfectly.

All in all, I'd probably give it a solid 8-9/10
It's thematically perfect, and the gameplay is solid. As I said above, it can be easy to fall into the trap of creating excessively powerful characters, but with a massively extensive options list and two difficulty settings above "Normal", you can change it up to become very challenging.

Definitely worth the buy

Played the game for maybe an hour or so after finishing the tutorials. I thought I could start the game with starting resources on minimal and still survive. I was so very wrong...

I started by gathering resources and building homes and a stockpile and barn, along with a fishing post. Everything went smoothely from then onwards.
My village slowly grew and I built a gatherer's hut and an herbalist's hut to help the villagers' poor fishy diet.
I built a mine and quarry to gather more resources so I could expand faster.
All of a sudden, 7 children are born simultaneously. My food stocks plummet instantly. ALL my fishermen starve. With no fishermen, the rest of the village soon follows.

11/10 Best selfless fishermen simulator.
