The devs have a min/max mentality. The combat, immersion, visuals, and music got all the love and care. Everything else was left at the bottom of the character sheet. It's easy to blame Tencent, and they have definitely influenced the game for the worse, but let's be real, Vermintide 2 min/maxed the same stats. Darktide is riddled with issues, but ♥♥♥♥ me if it isn't one of the best games I've ever played. They maxed the right stats, I just wish they had more points to go around.

Early Access Review
Yet another IRL climber review, yet another hearty recommendation. This game is a pipe dream that I've often considered sitting atop a rock. Even after playing it, I can't quite believe it exists. This passion project is so incredibly up my alley it should be a prank. I love climbing, and this game is a way others can experience one of my favorite things regardless of physical fitness or fear of heights. One day (hopefully) I'll be too old to climb, but at least I'll have this game.
After about an hour of learning the controls, instinct kicked in and I was able to ignore the UI. It only lasted one climb, but that's the best seal of authenticity I could possibly give this game. On the other hand, I've accidentally detached a foot instead of a hand a few times, which is quite frustrating, but the controls are about as good as they could be. It can be somewhat difficult to get your character to get their limbs around corners and such, and the limbs never quite settle where you think they would, but these are minor concessions for the advanced movement system. My only real complaint is that the camera auto adjusts the vertical position if you leave it idle. Considering your body movements are tied to the camera position, this takes control away from the player. All in all, a minor complaint with an easy fix.
With my single complaint out of the way, let's move on to suggestions. This game needs 3D. It seems ridiculous, but 3D would dramatically improve the gameplay in ways unique to this game. Rock surfaces would be so much easier to read. As it stands, I have to move the camera left and right to understand the 3D structure of the rock face. A still camera means you're missing over half of the craggy detail you need to get your grubby mitts all over.
Now, I don't know anyone with a 3D TV, but VR headsets? That's a different story. I'd love for VR to be implemented in this game, mostly for the 3D. I definitely wouldn't want motion controls, and while I'd love a first person mode, I don't think it's as beneficial as 3D. Even a VR mode with the same 3rd person perspective of the current game would be a massive improvement. Not to mention the added immersion.
In regards to the first person mode, I feel a big part of climbing is the limit of your first person perspective. Now, a first person mode would definitely slow down the game and limit visibility, so I could see this being frustrating. After all, the 3rd person camera does well to compensate for the lack of things that could never be simulated, such as your sense of touch as you explore the rock face with your fingers. However, I feel that this slower pace would more accurately simulate the "planning followed by execution followed by resting position" gameplay loop that I find so engaging from IRL climbing. Part of that loop is leaning out from your resting position to get a look at your next grip.
Anyway, I don't want my review to come across as complaining. And obviously even if VR was implemented, that's very far down the road. The devs have a lot to prioritize over an alternative game mode that only a small portion of their potential player base can play. The groundwork they've laid here is truly something special. Any climber that plays this game will instantly recognize the care and thought put into it. Any non-climber will find a very satisfying and methodical puzzle game that we climbers have been playing all along.

Played it through on gamepass, had to show the devs some love. Cultivates a powerful sense of mystery that makes exploration incredibly satisfying. Bopping tunes don't hurt either

I've been around the rogue-like block quite a few times, but this game really stands out from the rest. Describing it as just another rogue-like would be selling it short. The overall concept requires the game to be structured as a rogue-like, as you need to create the world around you from nothing while also having consequences to your actions. Wiping every run gives you great balance between the two. This game is incredibly hard to describe but if you watch the dev stream up there for 5 seconds you'll get it.

Basically Into the Breach with deck building. The starter deck has a lot of variety showing you the potential of future cards. The game's too short as is to really get a deck going but that's fine as it's basically a demo. My 2 main gripes are that the challenges seem like they need balancing (finish in one turn!?) and the interface could use some work, granted there's a lot of info to convey. Eagerly anticipating full release.
