Phenomenally pleasant game. Bit of a learning curve, but once you get that it's well worth it.

A time investment, but a favorite of mine. The developers really know the lore of 40k. It has a lot of potential, I hope to see it grow.

I love this game to death. It's an amazing game. But Gaijin has pushed the limit on their playerbase. Just google the "Free Abrams" debacle. Their forum mods are at times obnoxious, and they are using shady and flagrantly obvious means to squeeze money out of people. I understand it is free to play, and they need to make money off of that. I respect that.

However, they also have done a terrible job of communicating with the playerbase, and it has gotten to the point where it's frankly insulting. The in game economy is not set up properly. You can lose money even after getting multiple kills and completing objectives if you die. Balance is a constant issue, particularly in air realistic battles. It has now become obvious in the extreme they are now intentionally releasing unbalanced, but shiny new content which nets them the largest amount of money while managing to ignore (and in some cases offend) the concerns of their dedicated players. The grind is insane and takes an unbelievable amount of time and effort to unlock and make the upper tier vehicles survivable at all in combat. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a life outside of this game. I want to be able to at least progress in a manner that doesn't take literal months. I have played this game for years, but with all the other aforementioned issues, it is starting to lose its appeal to me.

It is at this point obvious to me that the management of the company has probably sat around a table discussing this issue and probably quite literally laughed with each other, because they know people will still keep giving them money.

I first got the demo for this game in 2002 or so from a disk wrapped together with- I think PC Gamer magazine. I would always look for the magazines with demo CD's in them at the local supermarket. The CD caught my eye through the plastic wrapping because the cover said STAR WARS in big letters with an awesome looking blue and white symbol. I got home and put the CD in, ignoring the other demos on the disk and quickly installed it (Quickly being subjective as game installation wasn't a short process back then). I finally started it up, and it was the most mind blowing gaming experience I had had up to that point. I beat the level the game came with and then had hours of fun with cheats and console commands. A few years later I was able to get the game at either Circuit City or CompUSA or something. I never got around to beating it. I played a lot of multiplayer then, which was also great fun. Some guy taught me all these crazy moves and harmless glitches of sorts you could do in multiplayer that only a select group of people knew about, which was so much fun. People would be mesmerized and I always enjoyed teaching them the secrets. I can't remember any of it anymore. But, if you're out there, guy who taught me Jedi Outcast multiplayer secrets, thank you for the fond memories.

Well, I'm finally about to finish the game all these years later. Everyone is right in saying it hasn't aged too well in some aspects. But, back then, the things we think about games having or not having today, we didn't really think about. The standards we have from games today didn't exist then, so I've been trying to play it as objectively as I did back then. And it's still a blast. It can be difficult, and frustrating at some points. But man, is it fun. You progress from not being able to hit anything with a blaster to feeling like a practically indestructible god of the force.

I just want to thank the team that made this. I had a lot of great memories playing it when I was younger, and still am 15 years later.
