What could I say about this game that hasn't been said by the other 142k reviews?

Undertale is brilliant not just because it's funny, or charming, or has great music, or is one of those rare turn-based RPGs where the combat is fun and there's no grinding. It has all of those things, but that's not why I - and nearly every other reviewer - loved it.

It's a game made to make you question the assumptions you have never thought to question in a retro-RPG. It makes you take a step back, and while the game might feel like a normal RPG, it turns everything on its head. It is constantly surprising you, rewarding inquiry, and makes your actions as a player feel impactful in a way most AAA RPGs utterly fail to do.

Sure, play it for the great music, funny characters, great dialog, and rewarding exploration. You'll love it just like I did. But it'll stick with you because of how insightful the game is as a reminder that sometimes, instead of smooshing the starting area bug enemy, it could be more rewarding to dance with it and let it go.
