Early Access Review
This game is phenomenal.

Although it's a early access title it runs surprisingly well. There are some minor issues (e.g., occasional rubber-banding on helos and on foot, disconnects) but the developers are cranking out hot fixes and patches at a brisk pace and are highly communicative across social media.

Why do I like this game?

Immersion:
Lamang Island is a 42km² persistent open world map with unparalleled attention to detail. The jungle environments are gorgeous and realistic. Add in insect, bird and frog sounds, a gentle breeze, beautiful lighting (provided by Lumen in Unreal Engine 5) and the bush comes alive.
The villages and other POI are well-designed and are equally fleshed out with extraordinary detail.

AI:
I play on PVE servers (you can easily switch between PVE/PVP modes) and find the AI to be challenging. When you open fire they will hone in on your position, utilizing suppressing fire and maneuvering to the last place you were spotted. If you don't flank or reposition you will be in trouble. I've watched AI sneak to gain a better position, hide behind cover, open doors and switch between hip and shoulder fire. AI will wallbang through objects. In higher tier areas they will employ armor to counteract your rounds. They will bait talk or otherwise remain silent as they sneak up on you. Although the AI are already in a solid place they could use a little tweaking.

Interaction:
GZW makes it easy to interact with other players. Voice chat works well and has two modes – proximity and squad. Squad voice chat works automatically and allows you to communicate with members across the map and even while on the main menu, simulating radio communication. Random PVE players are helpful with tasks or information even if they're in an opposing faction. There's plenty of chance for organic team-ups while in the bush. PVE servers are generally non-toxic. I can't offer an opinion about PVP servers since I haven't tried that mode yet.

Healing:
GZW's healing system is a breath of fresh air. It's intuitive and with a quick access menu allows you to easily choose which item to use. You can heal squad members or random players. This is an area where the game definitely shines.

Potential:
GZW has a solid foundation with the potential to dominate the military simulator genre if Madfinger Games is up to the task. The developers have announced the next big patch will include a day/night cycle and night vision. Once Ground Zero is complete I would imagine it will provide many more PVE/PVP opportunities for players.

Summary:
If your cup of tea is games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty or Battlefield, you may not like GZW. If you enjoy games like the original Ghost Recon or Arma series, you could easily fall head over heels.
GZW is a slower-paced, tactical military simulator that demands you put thought into your actions. If that's your thing this game will deliver.

There is no other game that compares to DayZ in the survival genre. It perfectly blends PVE and PVP aspects, creating challenging and rewarding game play. DayZ is well worth a try and provides unlimited replayability.
