For some reason they broke this game over the years. Bipod deployment is tedious and takes way too much time. Also in between maps the game gets stuck on the loading screens. There's a lot of server issues too like random disconnects and bad network connections resulting in lag / ping spikes.

I think the Verdun devs lazy. I've been playing it for years and honestly, how long could it take to make different weather type + different time of day versions of each map? One afternoon? Just some skybox editing and boom. Verdun players would have lots more variation. Now the only night time map is Champagne. Imagine all your favourite maps on different weather conditions and lighting conditions! No. Nobody at M2H had that bright idea. And why not keep designing new maps all together? There were hundreds of kilometres of trench fronts on the western front. Nah, too much work. Laziness. That's what it is. Wanna keep your game alive? Keep the high fidelity players coming back for more.

Yes I still play this game actively and sure I got my money's worth but it could be so much more.

This game should not claim to be out of early access. It's simply not true. Do not believe that this is a finished game.

I'm loving the story so far (I'm doing chapter Carpe Noctem right now) but the fps rate is so terrible it makes it really hard to enjoy it.

I'm playing on 8700K@4.7ghz, 1080ti, 16GB @3200mhz.

Do you want a game that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on your dreams and breaks everything you've ever loved in front of you? Then DayZ is the game for you!

Now in all seriousness the concept of this game is great. If you'd explain the general idea of this game to someone in real life it would sound like a game made in Valhalla and you'd be excited to try it. And to a certain extent this is also the reality but there's the dark, gloomy side of DayZ that is riddled with bugs, exploits, horrible AI, autistic KoS behaviour (subjective opinion) and much more.

I like the game don't get me wrong. I've bought it just as they released the newly built engine in experimental mode and I could see the difference of 'old DayZ' and 'new Dayz'. I've enjoyed all the hours and I'm still playing as I write this review. I just decided it was time to write one so here we are.

The game has so much potential. There's good survival aspects with your basic needs but additionally there's sickness, different kinds of diseases and poisoning. Fun medical implements like blood transfusions and actually simulated blood types and different kinds of medicines for different kinds of ailments. There's loads of things to be creative with but the way some of them are implemented is just beyond annoying.

Take base building. There is literally no reason for anyone to build a base anywhere unless you're playing on a community server that has tweaked the base building. Vanilla it means spending hours and hours on finding all the required materials and building until you have a small enclosed space to finally safely store your stuff. You need a safe place to store your stuff after all don't you? Well yes! But no, you're not getting that from all those hours of sweat, blood, keystrokes and mouse clicks. Some idiot can come along with a hacksaw and saw through your combination lock and get inside with no trouble. If they don't have a hacksaw then they can just spend a little bit more time on hacking through the lower section of you wall until the planks are removed and crawl through the space now void of planks and nick all your gear. Great fun!

Now let's list a few bugs!

-Climbing certain ladders will glitch out making you fall a considerable height and result in your untimely death.

"But Lemon, why then do you insist on climbing high structures?" I'll tell you! Because you should be able to! There's high structures right? "Right." And they have ladders right? "Yes." So I should be able to climb them and find loot on them right? "No because ♥♥♥♥ you that's why."

-Disappearing items.

Accidentally switching a jacket you're wearing for another item that is in a place as loot and having your item vanish from the face of Chernarus never to return again to the realm of the living and thus resulting in you losing valuable items that could be essential to your survival is the norm in DayZ.

Or just logging back in and knowing something is missing. Plot twist: it disappeared and is therefore, missing.. Forever.

-Horrible AI that was coded by someone who types on a keyboard with a sledgehammer.

The zombie AI and also the awfully clunky and awkward melee combat make for a unique DayZ experience altogether. Zombies will run and climb over stuff to get to you when they detect you which is a pretty cool feature to begin with. However, sometimes they'll first run through a wall and then 2 meters in front of that wall start to climb onto an invisible object and jump down while you watch there with your shattered immersion holding up both hands to BI studios. Zombies also spawn on roofs that they can't get off of and you can also get up on a wall or car and start blasting all the zombies into oblivion while they just stand around your car not knowing what to do. They can climb over walls faster than anything but once your 1,5 meters up high on something they can't do anything. Ok bohemia.

I could go on and on but you get the idea by now. I would excuse these bugs since I've had many awesome experiences and adventures (shoutout to DayZRP community) which still make me come back to the game. However this game has been out so long I've seen reviews of people that say they bought the game as they started going to high school and now they're entering University and it still is an unfinished broken mess of a dumpster fire. The thing is that it gets some thing right and the ambience of the game is great but there are so many needless and countless bugs that cause so much inner frustration that people will walk away from it again for a while or, in some cases, forever. For a game that released in 2013 it could've:

-Not release a map that was ported from Arma 3 and charging people for it when the game is obviously broken and unfinished.
-Updated textures of many, many things and objects.
-Squashed tons and tons of bugs instead of releasing 3 weapons and a car each damn update.
-Rework and / or polish already existing systems.
-Fix the AI.
-Learn from their mistakes in the Arma series and FIX THE AI.
-DO NOT SELL DLCS FOR A GAME THAT IS NOT FINISHED, THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WAITING TO BE FINISHED FOR YEARS THAT CAME FROM ONE OF THEIR OTHER FRANCHISES SO BASICALLY EARNING DOUBLE OFF OF IT. It's really just a scumbag move and a giant '♥♥♥♥ you' to the entire now divided player base.

Honestly, go buy the game cause you can have fun but buyers beware. You now know some of that is needed to know before proceeding.

Peace out.
