You know how in movies when humans interact with alien technology they somehow magically get it, or can even go as far as to easily hack into it? This is not like that, this is the real deal, almost incomprehensible "why is that light on?" trying-to-fly-an-alien-spaceship experience.
But I think I kinda understand how it works, kinda like a guided, 3D version of genetic algorithm programs like BoxCar 2D. I might only understand it because have some of the background for it, have done a semester or two working with neural networks. If your computer is chugging that's because this is a hungry simulation, not really a game.
All of this said, this isn't just an alien spaceship, but a derelict alien spaceship, a junker, picked over or never finished. I feel like it would take too long for me to get it doing something interesting. And it has of course been abandoned by the dev as far as I can tell - the whole thing was very ambitious, it seems.
But technically it could do something interesting if someone had the knowhow and the will, but I should probably spend my time on something else. But I will recommend it to those people who want a derilect alien spaceship experience - there's not much to see or do unless you have a little bit of knowledge and some time on your hands.

This is a creepy walking simulator.
The author makes use of some low poly environments as in The Moon Sliver, except the lighting and colors morph that into something very stylish.
I would say that the characters and story are good and interesting, although the dialogue can get a little..cringey.
It gets points for doing interesting things with your character's sense of self-preservation, and also it has a point and click mechanic that I wish was in other games (highlighting what you can do with objects only if you are holding down the mouse).
If you are a fan of SCP, or of strange soundscapes like Tim Hecker's work, this is probably up your alley.

If you are reading this review, considering buying this game, I would guess you are a person who is unafraid to play old games in the search of gems/classics. If not, this game may be your opportunity to become that person.

I think this game is a classic because of its personality. It is clever. It is punny. It is at times gloomy and macabre. It is colorful. Like other games that have followed it, rooting around in characters brains and seeing their trauma up close allows you to develop a lot of empathy for them. That part I especially enjoy.

That said, there are a few things that qualify my recommendation. The romantic storyline is trope after trope, which may stem from the fact that this game sort-of has an audience of teenagers or younger. The game has many many tutorials in its first half, which is also probably because of the younger audience and because the gameplay is fairly varied (a good thing, I think). The game is fun, but in general the platforming and combat are a little shy of being snappy or fluid - and this becomes a glaring, frustrating problem in the final level. So close to the end, and I spent ~25 mins on one section (if you've played it, you probably know the one). Apparently the final level is infamous, looking it up.... I guess ultimately this issue makes the game an overall good beer with a bad aftertaste. At least the story wrapped up in an interesting way.

I got exactly what I wanted from my experiences with Mountain. I'm not sure why people are complaining about it not resembling a game. Don't expect a game, expect.......a mountain.

This game was an old classic for me - I played the original on PS1. The original version doesn't work on most of the computers I've tried it on, so this was a good bet if I wanted to play it again. As others have said, there might be something lost by remaking the game, a kind of weirdness, lo-fi, the sound of a disc spinning or the playstation starting up. Still the remake is fairly faithful, if more colorful. If you liked the original game, I think this is worth it. if you've never heard of Oddworld, welcome! The game is charming, slapstick, tense, dystopian. And still fun!

Growing up without a Sega Genesis, this was the first Sonic Game I ever played, and I never beat it. I can see why! At the end the levels can get pretty hard, to the point of reminding me a little of Super Meat Boy, or I guess the reference goes the other way around. Either way, I finally beat it, and it was a worthwhile little game. Great art and music as might be expected. Technically it has more depth than a single playthrough, which might be a little surprising for an old game: multiple endings, multiple characters, hard to unlock achievements. I'm never gonna get them, but you might find that interesting as well.

I was an original Kickstarter backer. The premise was pretty cool, survive by sneaking around Robot gentlemen on a procedurally generated British Isle. This was when procedural generation was more of a selling point, as games tried to recreate Minecraft's genius.

I only just beat the game (going through my backlog quarantined from the Coronavirus) . Took me about 4 hours or so for that playthrough. I'd say the game is worth one playthrough. It's an interesting moment when you find yourself putting back rifle ammo so you can make room for an alarm clock. At the same time, don't expect to have much more fun beyond that one playthrough. You will have pretty much seen everything. The infinite number of islands are all the same, and at some point the strategy of using a distraction to get your maguffin is rote. If you are a big fan of stealth games, you'll probably recognize this as an interesting experiment.

Also, no online presence as far as I can tell. Another holdover from a slightly older video game age.

A very stylish and clever short story. The "game" isn't so much about your decisions, it's fairly linear conversation. Instead, it mostly plays out like a Vonnegut or Asimov story, with new & improved Marxist themes! It's a good one!

I know this game is rated Overwhelmingly Positive at the moment, but I wouldn't really recommend it unless you have kids or are a kid. I wanted to like this game, but I think there are 2 main reasons why I don't.

A) The gameplay feels shallow. Once I figured out how to harness the power of Largo slimes + favorite food, the gameplay was pretty simple: go to new area, find gordo, get key or new slimes, go back to maintain the ranch, repeat. Most of my time playing the game involved traversing a very familiar and not exciting landscape, or putting resources from one box into another - which isn't really fun. I had some fun setting up automation of the whole thing, and building teleporters to shorten the time of each of these activities, but then I felt like there wasn't much worth doing after that. Maybe finding decorations? For me they just ended up in a pile in the middle of the ranch for 90% of my gameplay time. The most interesting/fun thing I did, and the only time I really shifted around my ranch, was trying to make all my slimes vegetarian for efficiency and ethical reasons. After the two hours I spent doing that, I found the last "audiolog" and now I'm going to stop playing.

B) If you don't like hippies or SJW's standing on their soapbox you might want to stop reading here. The other reason I don't like this game is because it is about, at its core, extraction as an ideology. Lots of reviews mention how this game cured their depression or was relaxing, but I found it hard to relax when the game is essentially about taking organisms from their habitat and stuffing them into a 13x13x20 box so you can collect their poop for purposes such as (as told by the game) fancy drinking water and unnecessarily gawdy building material. The fact that the slimes had big smiles on their faces didn't really assuage the vague question I had of: why am I doing this again? and how exactly is this ethically justified? And once you advance enough, you can literally start drilling for oil! Maybe you think I'm reading too much into it - it's fine if you think that, but I'm also going to interpret any other game through my lens, and not all are about extraction of natural resources for marginal personal benefit. Idk, maybe I'm missing something?

All told, I think it's fine if you like this game. I can see why many do. It's very cute. Maybe this just wasn't my kind of game. Maybe someone will read this and realize it isn't their kind of game either. And my reasons for not liking the game might only apply if you are interested in certain kinds of gameplay/ethical questioning of video games, hence the recommendation to kids.

It's a short story walking simulator, so you probably know the drill. It's pretty neat, Story is alright, music is good. You might have to look past the old source engine models, textures.
