Absolutely brilliant!
Beautifully atmospheric sci-fi with an amazing story line. It is unforgiving and finely balanced so loosing control of the station, and suffering a mutiny or complete destruction, hangs over each decision you make from the start.

Best VR game I have! Absolutely immersive and stunning. I have got mods working as well so I don't feel I have regressed from the SE version. 3rd time I have purchased Skyrim (original, SE, and now VR) and I am not sorry. Only thing I would say to anyone buying this, spend a bit of time setting up your VR experience, controls, etc, to ensure you get a comfortable experience.

Really enjoying the game and looking forward to the expansions.

Had some connection issues early on but this was before Incursions 1.1 and it seems fine for me now. I have seen a number of criticisms from other regarding gameplay, but these have not deterred me or depreciated my gameplay at all.

Enjoying the atmosphere and overall storyline, I especially like to investigative nature and exploring for the various recordings and ‘Echoes’. The echoes are really cool by the way and given were we are going with augmented reality, totally plausible.

I really like the approach to character skills and traits, rather than allocating points in a graphical table you take ownership of a Base of Operations and upgrade its facilities, this has a visual and environmental impact on the base which I find rewarding.

The early levels seemed a bit too easy, but things seem to be getting more difficult as I progress (current level 17). Only limited experience in the Dark Zone (PvP open zone). I have read much criticism of this area of game play but I taper this with the view that this is normal for open PvP spaces, someone will always be complaining about balance and ganking.

I started playing STO during beta and, like many others, after release soon maxed out a toon and started to wonder what the end-game was, PvP turned out un-balanced and dissapointing, and exploration was repetative, although the episodes (missions) were always rewarding. Being a trekkie I stuck with it as long as I could but managed to get pulled away by friends onto other games and MMO's easily (yes including SWTOR...) but returned occasionally to see what had changed.

Recently I rejoined after about a year's break and am really enjoing it. The various game play changes and additions, season expansions, and the defocus of PvP, have made this into a great game delivering the online Star Trek experience I was expecting originally. The new seasons (to me everything from Solane Dyson Sphere onwards) are great and embody the Star Trek experience with the exception that I'm in the captains chair.

Well turned around devs, can't wait for the New Dawn expansion now, but at least I have some time to catch-up.

For those considering the game:
- It's free to play, and playable as free to play, although I have sub'ed for the extra's...
- Feels like Star Trek, Looks like Star Trek, Sounds like Star Trek,
- Great official storyline (seasons and episodes) and player added content with lots of great episodes,
- Extensive customisation (player, ship, bridge officers, duty officers),
- Space combat and Ground combat, but you still feel you are in the same game and plying the same mission,
- Lots of extended and end game content now, so much so you can easily get distracted from the storyline,
- More PvE than PvP,
- PvE - can go it alone and get a full experience, joining a fleet adds to this experience,
- A lot to get your head around now though, but you should expect some technical depth in a Star Trek universe,
- and it's Free-to-Play...

Still a few things I'd like to see added/changed (I still want to explore the various ships internally rather than the same layout on each other than the bridge), but definately worth a re-installing and spending the effort getting familiar with the changes if you gave it up a while ago.

Original rating (Posted: 7 Jun, 2015 @ 11:37am): "Recommended" - Epic, galactic scale, shared sanbox space simulator.

Latest patch 2.1 means that if you not combat ready or focused, your f###ed. After 0ver 600 hours - including beta and pre-steam account consolidation, I'll have to hang up my helmet until the devs can fix it.

Too much time commitment required only to get wasted in mismatched Ai combat.

Updated - 6 August 2016

A few subtle changes and personal training have but me back in the pilots seat (I love mines...). Engineers also now more rewarding.

Fantastic game, a different game to Civ 5 and not quite SMAC, progresses at a better pace in my opinion. Better research options with a web approach rather than a linear one that allowed Ghandi to nuke you while you we still using muskets. Matter of time though before a SMAC mod comes out with all the factions…
