$30 with a battle pass and micro-transactions.

Game has very little depth and little reason for team play. Should be F2P.

Can't queue for a specific non-knockout (deathmatch) game mode if there is one you like.

This will be dead within a year.

Online was not tested during early access. Release day comes around and servers have been down ever since with the latest update being more downtime, likely for the rest of the opening weekend.

Had multiple instances of the game locking on the main menu, forcing a restart. Encountered many errors connecting to online play. This game should still be in early access.

Fantasy Strike is the perfect entry point into the world of fighting games that jumps straight to the heart of what makes the genre interesting: character matchups, mind reading, and you know - actually playing the game! Gone are the days of spending hours in "The Lab" practicing and discovering combos until your fingers fall off. I've played a good amount of fighters in the recent years and had quite a lot of fun with the Blazblue series, but Fantasy Strike feels refreshing because of how fast you can learn and get to the core of the game - zoning, mind reading, matchup, etc. I picked Geiger as my first character to learn and was pulling off 3 damage combos (each hit does a full 'pip' of damage and characters have between 5 and 8 health) and feeling comfortable with him within 30 minutes of playing arcade for a bit and then jumping into online multiplayer. GGPO is a great bit of netcode and it works well here and will likely only give better matches as the playerbase grows and the game releases.

If you've ever wanted to break into the fun part of fighting games - give Fantasy Strike a chance. There's lots of room for the game to grow (UI/Customization/Asset Polishing) but Fantasy Strike's future looks very promising.
