Ok so iv been playing this game ... well ... too much... iv also played every aspect of it from single player, local coop (with my wife), random private server, and server with friends... all of this has been played in both pvp and pve...

so the nitty gritty... honestly most of what im going to say is positive...

a single player experience... you can build, tame, mod to your hearts content.. express your creativity... building castles, towns, citys, ... with mods you can do almost anything..

take a step forward.. local coop same as above but you can now share the experience and ideas with another... wife, gf, kids, friends...

another step forward.. server with friends... same as above... a safe community with people you can trust

yet another step forward... now you are playign in someone elses pool.. thier mods... but still easier than the main game.. usually increased resource gathering and taming... most admins are open minded with mods you suggest and you can make new friends..

now lets get into the regular game pve... your stuff cant be destroyed .. (unless someone tried to train dinos into your base.. yay for griefers) but your still carebear they cant attack you directly... there is now competition for space, dinos, resources.. you have to deal with land grabbers and trolls.. but thats an mmo... on the flip side you can meet new friends.. find amazing tribes that will teach you..

finally this games pvp.. private or public .. it will be hard.. alpha tribes control everything.. even if your friendly with one .. one day and the next you could log in to everything gone on a whim from them... there are rules you will follow on the server.. no gigas, no quetz, etc.. private pvp servers can be a bit more toned down... but all and all its the challenge build yourself up.. make alliances... hide your ♥♥♥♥.. hope no one backstabs you or wipes you.. but its pvp keeps it interesting...

now this is my general opinion... there are many bugs, old issues and problems and stuff iv left out..

- the devs charging for an expac when we were still in alpha lol
- my lord how long we stayed in alpha
- ninja patches screwing people over
- them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boats!!!!!! (for private servers im sure someone will make a classic boats mod :P)
- Devs "Balancing" things that didnt need it
- lets not even get into the "you know who" invading servers with super alpha tribes wiping everyone out and blocking spawns
- and the fact that the devs are slow as hell at banning people for breaking the rules

even after i say all of this... it has been a positive experience.. coming from.. a builder.. breeder.. crafter... and collecter...
the modding community is wonderful and there are many great players out there waiting to meet you.

If public is too grindy go private server...
if pve is too carebear go pvp
dont like people play single player
need a coop game play local

lots of options for lots of gamers
