A beautiful, low stress terraforming game. The relatively simple gameplay loop kept me entertained for many hours just in the demo alone, and about another 20 after. I will be returning eventually too, as many updates have been added since I stepped away.

Ive had this game for years now, and I keep coming back to it. Well worth the price point, and often goes on sale for less than 8 bucks, which is a pure steal. Development releases tend to be on the slower side, with sometimes sweeping changes (the skill system in particular has been reworked completely multiple times). If you like survival, crafting, and/or zombie games you can't go wrong.

Darkwind isn't an easy game. Combats are brutal, and results are permanent. Your gang won't be dying of old age.

The learning curve is steep enough to be a sheer cliff. Learning to control a car in a turn based system doesn't happen quickly. The UI is split between a website and the client, which isnt much of an issue with steam overlay but is still a pretty unique way to interact with the game.

And Darkwind is marvelous. There is a depth here that isn't apparent at first glance, and the rabbit hole goes DEEP. It scratches an itch I've had ever since I first played Car Wars years ago. If you are a fan of turn based games I implore you to give it a go, be patient and learn this amazing game. The community is unbelievably helpful to new players and will answer all of your questions.

I am absolutely loving Necromunda The atmosphere here is spot on, and the tactical options are fairly deep. While yes, there are some AI issues here, its nothing that an increase in difficulty hasn't been able to counter in my experience. And difficulty can be adjusted simply be starting a new operation. I recommend to start on a normal difficulty one (or easy if you are a complete newbie to turn base squad tactic games) and ramping up the difficulty each operation until you scream uncle.

The movement issue is a bigger concern for me; movement is measured in meters from your starting point, so going up ramps can allow for insane amounts of movement. Both you and the AI can take advantage, and judicious use of traps can help, so it is kinda balanced, but means often the enemy can be all up in your grill faster than you may have anticipated. I am kinda OK with this too; Necromunda is a REALLY deadly place. There is an easy fix with this just by adopting a variant of the mechanics from Mordheim, dropping a way point every 10 meters or so, that I hope they adopt.

The rest of the game is very solid; the graphics are great, the missions are fun, every class has its place and multiple ways to utilize, skills are varied with few "throwaway"skills, and tactical options are abundant. The in game map is one of the best I've seen, with a full 3D render and the ability to drop up to 4 waypoints at a time. There are a few types of missions, but there is potential for many more (fingers crossed for expansions).

The story was OK. I've heard some complaining that it was a bit on the hard side, but I was able to finish with only 2 people downed through all 15 missions, and both of those in the melee pit mission early on. YMMV. The story missions themselves were fun, with a few unique to the campaign.

Yes, there are warts, but it has barely hampered my enjoyment. If you have concerns hold out and see how patching goes. The developers are listening to the community for input, so I imagine the few but glaring issues will be addressed expediently.

EDIT: One issue I did forget to mention is looting. With the current system, looting all of a gangs weapons early in an operation can cripple them through the rest of the operation. While realistic, it does take some of the challenge out. Its easy enough to just not loot them tho.

TLDR; Necromunda is a solid turn based squad tactics game, albeit with an issue or 3 that have done very little to get in the way of my absolute enjoyment.

I love survival games. Love em. I've been intrigued by Force of Nature since I first put it on my wishlist years ago. Saw it available for less than a buck and said hey, you can't beat that! After about an hour and a half, I decided to return it. The game has pretty decent potential, but there were some serious cons from the get go. The UI is clunky and strange. Combat is clunky AND boring. The crafting system seems to have some potential, but is incredibly grindy, and I hear there aren't that many different options for buildings. Most importantly, I did not have fun. All in all, these were enough for me to request a refund. There are too many great games in this genre, and life is just too short to choose one this lackluster.

Fun game if you like tactical turn based goodness. For some, the novelty may wear off after a while, but I keep coming back. The dark tone and permanent consequences really keep it alive for me. I could see it getting repetitive for some after 40 or so hours, but the price point is definitely fine for that, especially on sale! Really looking forward to Necromunda!

Don't let the amazingly cute graphics and animations fool you. There is real depth here, to a degree not seen in many other colony management games. In fact it can be a bit daunting at times. Don't let that put you off though! With the option to roll in no sweat mode, and all the various difficulty options, ONI is good for both casual and hardcore gamers. For me this game is certainly one of those "Just one more cycle...." kind of games where hours disappear before you realize it. Enjoy responsibly.

This is hands down the best installment in the series. The graphics, the characters, the gameplay, the story, all are a step above anything Rockstar has done with the franchise before. GTA fans will NOT be disapointed with the single player experience.

The online portion, however, is not for everyone. The most lucrative missions usually carry a farily large risk, and in an environment where anyone can blow you away for no reason this can be maddening. The prices of everything are jacked up to encourage the purchase of Shark Cards in order to stay competitive.

Even with these negatives, I have enjoyed GTA Online immensely however. In my opinion, the key is to have or find friends to play with. Findinga great crew to run with can relly downplay the negtives.

The Long Dark is an amazing survival game. While many survival games strive to capture elements such as hunger, dehydration, or exposure, most of them fall flat. The Long Dark really makes you feel the anxiety. Rarely have I felt so immersed in the world laid out before me; no small feat considering the more artistic rather than realistic visual style the developers settled on. The game world is no less stunning, however.

There are still some rough edges to the Long Dark. Dialogs in Story Mode are about half voiced; cut scene transitions can be a little rough as well. There is no option to jump, and while I thought this might have been a game breaker, for the most part you don't miss it (and you're not likely to be doing alot of jumping wearing a 30kg backpack in the snow anyway); however this means there are some areas where you get stopped by terrain that is only a few inches high. This is quite rare, and easy to go around, but it does occasionaly break the immersion that this game does so well otherwise.

The learning curve can be quite steep. I died several times in the first few hours of playing; coming back from the brink has been one of the more satisfying moments in my gaming life. The game does provide simpler difficulties, but I don't recommend them. The struggle is the meat of the game. For this same reason I don't recommend looking to guides or wiki's if you can help it. And if you can't help it, try to look for no/low spoiler ones. Exploration and overcoming adversity are their own rewards.

Even though The Long Dark has been fully released now, development continues. I am new to the community but the reading I have done suggests that Hinterland Studios are very proud of their baby and are determined for it to grow up well.

Final verdict? If you're a fan of survival games, it's a no brainer. The Long Dark is going to scratch that itch very well, and even though I am only 35 hours in the game seems to continue to scratch that itch for the long haul as well. Even if you have never played anything in this genre, if your interest is piqued then it is certainly worth your time and money. When all is said and done, The Long Dark provides a unique experience and feel, a task that is increasingly difficult with game design today. I bought the game on sale, but having experienced it now I would gladly have paid full price.

Rimworld, on its surface, is a sci-fi colony building sim with influences from Dwarf Fortress and Prison Architect. There is soooo much more to it though. First, the game was designed as a story generator, not a game, and this comes out in the gameplay; you grow attached to your colonists, and the comedy and tragedy that inevitably unfolds is sometimes moving, sometime frustrating, but ALWAYS entertaining.

Rimworld offers easy to understand gameplay and just jumping in is fairly easy. Surviving, however, isn’t. There is a learning curve here. You will die. Probably a lot. Don’t sweat it, either just reload that save or start a new colony, learning from your mistakes. It’s even possible to continue a base that fails drastically, if you are attached to it; just wait long enough after everyone dies and someone will eventually come by to join and start anew.

Rimworld also offers nearly unlimited replayability, offering many options for worlds, terrain, and scenarios. When you’ve exhausted all that, the modding community is, hands down, amazing. From quality of life mods that just tweak the experience to new content that completely alters the game, its all there. Even when I take a break from playing I am keeping up with the new mods.

I have also rarely seen a developer so involved with the community. He listens to what people say and the game greatly benefits from it.

Don’t wait for it to go on sale; it likely won’t. Rest assured, if you are at all intrigued, you WILL get your money’s worth.
