The concept of being a killer shark in a sandbox with a lot of freedom (and kind of superpowers) makes the game really fun. However a few things must be clear:

First of all the game is short. You can easily do 100% completion in about 10-15 hours. Although it seems that further DLC content is on the way.

The design of all areas is great, on the other hand it gets kind of a "rinse and repeat" experience. Even though the animals and bosses differ from one zone to the other (obviously) the way you progress in the game is by doing the same kinds of quest in every area. This kind of reminds me of the first Assassin's Creed games.

The difficulty levels of each area also varies a lot. In the beggining you are a pup shark that can eat turtles and smaller fish and to fight the foes (that outlevel you by a lot) you have to use a "hit and run" strategy. However from the second zone onwards you start to get really overpowered if you get a fair amount of the collectibles, which is really easy given that you have an ability that reveals them on the map (you can - and should - further upgrade this ability to get those collectibles super fast) and by the fact that by doing the quests you will eventually explore the entire zone (and therefore locate most, if not all, of the collectibles). In the last zones of the game you can basically just rush towards the enemies and keep hitting them to be succesful, which is also fun because your shark becomes e really overpowered creature (sorry Jason Statham you won't get me this time).

A great aspect is that you can customize your shark using different mutations that can be further upgraded (like the radar I mencioned before). Theres a great number of mutation "slots" and you can eventually get them all maxed out so you can change your mutation based on what kind of enemy you will face. The main mutations will either make your shark "tanky", "agile" or "balanced". The amount of mutations does not overwhelm you as in some games with so much customizable options. This way you have enough to design your shark as you want and can focus more in playing the game than in planning your skills and stuff. It seems to me that in each portion of the game one of the mutations will be better, but all of them are viable to beat the game.

Overall I would definetly recommend getting the game because the experience is great. However I'd advise to get it on a sale since there's no much content (about 10-15 hours of gameplay to 100% completion).
