Early Access Review
Stunlock studios is an odd one. I played Bloodlines Champions and watched them stop supporting it, I then bought battlerite (which was essentially the same gameplay) and then stop supporting it. I decided to give V Rising a chance cos the majority of reviews were positive and I thought it might be worth the money. As of writing this review, I don't think it is.

First of all, despite what Steam says, this is definitely not an mmorpg. I'm sure there are roleplaying elements possible further down the line, but as of now there is no story or world at large for you to play a role in. There is no central server, stunlock doesn't provide a curated experience, it's up to individuals to host dedicated servers and up to you to find one that *might* have players that an aligned vision of what you want. There is no xp, progression depends entirely on crafting new items. Which involves large amounts of time hitting trees, rocks and plants to get stuff, so if you're looking for a combat focused game, I wouldn't recommend this.

Systems are poorly explained (I challenge anyone to find out what "leech" the debuff applied by your first ability) does without googling it. It looks like they're trying to cater to streamers as "streamer mode" is turned on by default. This game might improve over time, but I'm guessing the gameplay loop and overall game is pretty well defined at this point and won't change much. If you didn't enjoy Ark: Survival Evolved, Conan Exiles, Rust, Raft, Void Train, Sons of the Forest, Valheim, Fallout 76, etc, this game has nothing to offer.

Great game, super chill, super tactical, easy to learn, impossible to master.

Class building has so much depth and freedom, so many builds and so little time.

Slow burn of a game but beautiful, fun to play. Play it on medium/hard and take it easy until you get a decent assault rifle.

I really really really really like this game. I've played it on and off touching up my code for about two months now and I love it. I used to write bots for league and eve online and stuff, and I genuinely enjoyed coding and debugging and automating more than I did playing the game itself. I'm so glad I've found a game where I can script! It's easy to learn to interact with the game world via javascript, and the rest is just trial and error and checking the screeps api page :D! If you want to learn coding, or enjoy it, I highly recommend this game.
