A spiritual successor to Xcom: UFO Defense? Absolutely. It stays true to the old formula and adds it's own unique spin to it. A great game to play, enjoyable, very hard and satisfying. Set in the Cold War period rather than the 90's you'll see some old equipment at first being used, and it definitely feels genuine and believable.

The game doesn't look like the newest games out there with flashy graphics, yet I can plainly say, I like the simpler 2D sprites. They're in good resolution and feels fitting thoughout the game.

The new interceptor mechanics is great fun and adds another layer the original games didn't quite have (other than knowing the range of your weaponry). This one has iconic Jets at your disposal at first, and they can perform some aerobatic manuevers to avoid enemy fire, but so can the enemy. Just like the old game, you'll have cannons and rockets on some planes.

And in comparison to the old XCOM again, you'll get different weapon classes. In XCOM you got, pistol, rifle, auto cannon, heavy cannon and rocket launcher. Meanwhile in this you'll get pretty much all that, with auto cannon being replaced with machine guns (practically the same) and heavy cannon being replaced by snipers. As well as shotguns, carbines (SMGs) and riot shields.

As for other equipment, you'll have high explosive, grenades, flares and smokes and also, a new stun grenade, which allows you to remove the ability for reaction fire when your enemy is suppressed.

A lot of new and a lot of old, either way you'll very likely enjoy it.
