This is just not my style of game. Everything has to be perfect, optimized, and fast for you to stand a chance as the game progresses. All of the resource nodes on the map are depleted quickly. Houses take up a ton of space that you don't have to have people to work with. A lot of food is needed to keep up.

Then there's the pacing. You're CONSTANTLY being attacked. Especially in the later levels. You have waves that happen every few days, so you're always under the gun. Then you have random buildings on the map that generate mini-waves that hit you from all sides.

Walls are expensive and very delicate, even at the stone level. You need coins to upgrade to higher levels, which require TONS of base materials (like, 3 coins for 120 wood). Every wave also increases in size and strength.

It's just a ton to be doing constantly. And a lot of times, you're constrained on space for one reason or another. So your basic army has to clear a bunch of villages to make space. But then you're left wide open for random attacks. And you certainly don't have enough troops to guard your base, because the second a wave is done, you need to be on the offensive and killing stuff.

If you're too aggressive, your units die, which goes back to needing more resources. I was hoping for something more like We Are Billions, which was a very fun and doable game on lower difficulties. It had some of the same elements where you could screw up a base and need to start over, but once you learned your lesson, you were OK. This game is just rough all around.

The FIRST CASTLE you have to take on is made of stone and loaded with super advanced trebuchets that fire extremely fast and never miss (as compared you to your slow firing, always missing garbage). Also several towers of archers. Oh, and those trebuchets can attack WAY before you're able to and none of your extra powers can damage them. This essentially means you can't move your ranged attacks in close enough before they're utterly decimated by the barrage of fast, heat seeking rocks. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, I play games to relieve stress, not to build it. So, unfortunately, I'm done with this one. If you like extreme challenges, micro managing everything, and a bunch of game mechanics meant to crush you (disease, depleting resource nodes, expansive building with no protection, constant waves of enemies, etc.) then this game is for you.

One of the best multiplayer experiences of my life. Top 3, easy. I wish I could MIB my brain and forget about it, just to play it all over and enjoy it for the first time. Can't recommend enough.

I want to be able to recommend this game, but I can't for two specific reasons:

1. Multiplayer camera: absolutely horrid. The fact that I have to share the screen/camera with my friends is ridiculous. I'm constantly having issues getting cut off while my friend engages enemies to the north and I'm trying to cover the south. It jumps all over the place and makes it a huge chore to track your player, your friends, and the enemies.

2. The cursor: I'm made it "always visible" and have enlarged it, and I'm STILL constantly losing the thing. On some maps, it's almost impossible to see it until you aim. Leave it truly always on, bright white, with the crosshairs please.

If they could address these two things, it would be much more enjoyable (playable) for me and I'd be able to recommend it. Otherwise, I'm done.

Awesome game for the price, and quite challenging at times. I absolutely loved it and will probably play it again in the future.

Welp, 3-4 years later, it's still an unpatched piece of garbage. I rarely review games, but this one deserved it.

Blackscreens and constant crashing during multiplayer. I remember in 2013 a friend and I tried multiple times to get a game going, and every time it'd get to some arbitrary day and crash. Even reloading, it'd still crash. So we gave up and hoped it'd be patched eventually.

We forgot about it until today - tried it again, and the same frickin' thing. I won't be wasting any more money on this franchise again. Good job, Ubisoft. Quality work.
