This game is what happens when you look at a bunch of other popular game IPs, some of them that have stagnated, and then decide to make your own game that incorporates as many good things from those IPs as possible and leaves out most of the bad things.
Apparently doing this makes the people who are heavily invested in those IPs, ESPECIALLY those that have stagnated to the point of soullessness, very angry.
Oh well, anyhow, would I recommend this game to people? Yes.
If you like open world survival games where you craft your own base, make it self sustaining and then defend it against enemy attack, you will probably like this game. If you like Ark, you will probably like this game.

If you wished that either of the new Legend of Zelda games had creature collecting and base building, you will probably like this game, although you may be annoyed by how limited the fighting system is for your player character until you either find a crazy powerful Pal to ride around on or craft the higher tier ranged weapons.

If you wished Pokémon had an actual animation budget instead of just pulling the same tired old set out of the freezer and giving it a go in the microwave every new generation, you are going to love this game, because lo and behold the Pals actually have fluid attack animations in real time.

If you ever wish you could just pull out a gun and shoot that stupid "wholly original" Pikachu clone from the umpteenth generation in its stupid face, and then cook and eat its sweet, succulent flesh with gravy and a side of fried eggs, this is the game for you!

Seriously, it's basically a mashup of mostly good aspects from a lot of popular game series, if you like Legend of Zelda, they have the BotW/TotK UI, and an in-game tablet that looks very similar to the Sheikah Slate, mysterious directive on the startup screen and everything. It has elements of base building from Ark and Rust (And presumably all the "fun" PvP hijinks as well, if they're not in the game now, they're coming in the next few patches.) And the monster collecting system if I had to compare the basics of it with anything it would be the Legends: Arceus spinoff game. Except you can assign Pals to your base to defend it as well as engage with your various base work stations to do work such as keeping food chilled, generating electricity, smelting ore and so on.

Obviously you can run this as a friendly cooperative effort where you provide them with food and shelter and don't ask too much of them, or you can run it as a sweatshop, or you can pull the slider all the way over to "Warhammer 40k penal colony" levels of slave labor, it's up to you to decide.

There's a story to find through lore tidbits that are scattered all over the absolutely humongous map but it's not really the main point unless you choose to make it your main point, the game features a passable player character customization system, and more difficulty options than you can shake a stick at, it's approaching No Man's Sky levels, so you can decide how fast or how slow you level in the game, thus lessening the grind massively if you want to do so.

I suppose I should also mention how the game runs, I have a PC that's several years old, with an old 1070 GPU and aside from some minor stutters when loading into a new area after fast travel I have not noticed any major issues. So I guess that's my anecdotal performance review done, that is to say I use old hardware and the game still runs much smoother on it than the last two generations of Pokémon did on a dedicated console that the games were supposed to be optimized for.

I've only played 8 hours at the time of this review but I still feel comfortable giving the game a thumbs up.
Going to enable comments for my own private amusement.

If anyone tells you to try a bullet heaven game, this is the one.
The granddaddy.
The gold standard.
I'm not saying that no other games in the genre are good, I'm not saying that nobody else can improve on this formula and make it better. But if you want to play games like these, you should play this one so you know what a bullet heaven game is supposed to feel like. There are many others out there and they will only become more refined from here.

Still, this is the full package. The music is amazing, the levels are varied, and there is a metric buttload of things to unlock, and once you think you're done unlocking things, there are SECRET things to unlock.

If you think you are going to like it, buy this game. It's well worth the money.

Pros:
This game comes close to being a worthy successor to the isometric games of old, it's not often I compare any other title to Baldur's Gate 2 but yeah, this game comes close enough. It's not Neverwinter Nights since you still don't have an in-depth campaign editor or anything like that.
You do however have more freedom in putting your character together than in any CRPG I have seen so far, they have done their best to include as many classes as possible.
The music is well put together and fitting, the story is much better than the previous game and so is the difficulty curve.
The options for character customization even stretches into Mythic progression.

Cons:
They advertise an option to skip the crusade strategy parts of the game and only focus on the RPG aspects, sadly this option shoots you in the foot (by completely removing the fast travel options you would build if you had manual control) and also breaks several quests related to the Mythic progression system, so whatever you do DON'T turn it on until they patch this!

Do you like games that can literally be played until you get bored of them, with high level end game content, massive amounts of collectibles, crafting, a huge collection of magical spells to unlock, a whole slew of classes you can unlock and switch between that each play in different ways and monster collection as the main focus?

This game has all of that plus a perfectly acceptable storyline that acts as your tutorial. It also has all of the other things you expect from an endless isometric dungeon crawler, minigames, tons of superbosses and more exploration than you can shake a stick at.

You don't need to have played any of the earlier games, just pick this one up and play it, it's well worth the price, and if it ever goes on sale you have even less reason to not buy it.

This game is all about finding out how to make parts, and then automate that process, and then micromanage and optimize that automation, and then make something new from the parts you just made, and then optimize that, until you get a rocket.
Also, the dev has managed to piss of Twitter and then tell them what they can go do with themselves.
I'd buy this game just for that fact. This dev stands against cancel culture.

This is a game that starts off simple, with a clunky keyboard setup that thankfully is fully rebindable (O is the button for rotating buildings) and simplistic high-visibility graphics that somehow manages to look both incredibly clean and remind you of something that came out on the Dreamcast (minus the low poly count.)

Make no mistake though, this is a tower defense puzzle game. If you implement a sub-optimal solution or get tricked into rushing something the map weren't designed for, you will be drowning in Creeper really fast, once the game stops holding your hand you will likely be brutalized and have to reload if you are as bad at this as me. It operates on the Hollow Knight side of difficulty though, so once you've restarted the map a few dozen times you will find a strategy that works. (Don't go for that early AC, it's a TRAP! Yes, it is exactly the map you think it is.)

All in all I'd definitely say this is indie game of the year, anyone that loves tower defense games or puzzle games has a fair chance of loving Creeper World 4.

This game is amazing, but if you're thinking of buying the DLC, play through the ENTIRE game first.
There's nothing for you in the DLC until you beat the endgame of the original game, so save your money until then.

I'm not a massive fan of roguelite games but this one is actually a lot of fun. Instead of going through the campaign in one long run you basically do self contained dungeons with progression carrying over in the form of permanent upgrades.
It's a procedurally generated string of FPS arenas with upgradeable magic weapons, and it even has two plasma guns of sorts, so what's not to love?

Picked this game up after the release of 3.0, the only reason I'd waited this long was that a lot of people hated on the game for various reasons since vanilla.
Now however, it's a fun game. Pick up a mod or twenty to fix the nearly nonexistent crew skill level chance and it's even more fun.
