I enjoy total war games but often fall into a pattern of starting a new campaign, playing 20-30 turns then stopping because it doesn't feel rewarding beyond the first few turns.

Total war pharoh has managed to solve that problem, i LOVE IT!

I completely understand a lot of people were disappointed in the game, i'm not saying they're wrong for feeling that way, i can only say that for me in particular this game has really made me invested in my campaign and I look forward to playing it.

Specifically why its been great for me; the campaign mechanics such as the new court system and the interaction between myself and my vassals has really worked to get me invested in the campaign, every turn i want to do one more plot or conquer one more province.

When my first general became the target of an assassination plot from a major enemy I went on a trading spree getting enough resources to destroy the plot and save my general from losing his position at court.

To begin with, a really solidly made single player FPS story game.

If thats all you're after then its still a decent buy and you should get it on sale. However if you ever watched the first two terminator films and want to take a dive into that wartorn future... then this is the game for you.

There is so much fan service in this game. It is truly amazing. If you enjoyed those original films then get this game.

Really fun game play loop, very similar to Left 4 Dead and other team based shooters but the environment and aesthetic are really nice.

A really well done console port, you spend a significant amount of time riding your bike and they've made the handling and feel of driving it very good even using keyboard and mouse.

The shooting mechanics are satisfying too, difficulty wise I'd say that the driving is harder and the shooting probably easier than intended on PC as headshots are instant kills even on the highest difficulty but the game doesnt suffer for that.

I do recommend the game.

It's definitely lacking some polish, there are multiple graphical glitches, spelling mistakes and weird looking animations (the 'zombie' heads are just ridiculous) which make the game feel like it could've done with some more BETA testing.

The story is passable but pretty un-engaging; the game steals quite a bit from the half-life games. For example your character is completely mute saying absolutely nothing, ever. Your love interest is the daughter of your leader and is constantly in trouble (despite being one of the tough soldiers) and even the typical enemies are pretty boring zombies. You come across a few survivor groups but they're usually fanatical about something to the point of being silly.

Just backing up on how your character doesnt speak. You don't say anything EVER which just feels weird in this game. People are radioing you constantly asking if you're ok or how things are going and your character just ignores them. It's really unclear why this is the case. Even more unclear why no one brings it up. Am i supposed to be replying or assuming i have? it's weird.

Finally the girlfriend. At one point you're rescuing her from pretty awful situation. after the rescue there are still enemies around. You don't give her one of your weapons. Such a basic thing but she's walking around in her t-shirt while you can hear gunfights in the distance. I have zero emotional investment in her character but even so, she's still supposed to be one of the soldiers...

Get it if you want a passable story game and it's heavily on sale. Otherwise you'd be better off elsewhere.

The Long Dark is one of my most played games.

it's a survival / scavanging game which pits you, as a lone survivor, in a world with falling temperatures, dangerous wildlife and beautiful landscapes.

I find the balance of survival with scavanging really rewarding. You can take what food and clothes you have, hide in a hit and boil water for a few days, or take a big risk and venture out hoping to find some better gear, more food or a new tool.

I strongly advise watching a few 'lets plays' (LMG is my favourite) to get a feel for the game, but broadly speaking if you enjoy the idea of balancing resources, scavanging for items and trudging through artful landscapes then this is the game for you.
