Few games could encapsulate what a true horror comedy game looks like better than Lethal Company. Lethal Company doesn't rely on your average jump-scares or loud, overbearing noises and music to set the tone and fear for the player. Instead, it relies on wonderful sound design, random map generation (that works in its favor), and excellent multiplayer co-op to create one of my favorite games of the year (and in a while). My only gripe is that it still needs more content (which the solo developer provides as quickly as they can) to reach its full potential, but for $10 there are very few horror games that beat this experience.

The only true Battlefront game (okay the first one was great too). The game offered some of the best multiplayer and co-op you could find back in the mid to late 2000s. Unfortunately, the multiplayer is dead (literally) now, but luckily the game is still enthralling today with a great albeit simplistic campaign, and Instant Action/Galactic Conquest modes that always have you coming back for more. Oh, and there's mods, so yeah get this. Not Battlefront EA.

The game tries too hard to be like Resident Evil, namely the first one and the fourth one, but while Shinji's newest entry may not be his best, it is definitely not a bad game by any stretch. The atmosphere of the game is spot on and gives you a horror movie vibe, as for the black bars and the 30 FPS, it didn't bug me as much as it has bugged others, but there are ways to fix them if you have any issue with either of those. The camera was a bit of a nuisance at times in the game, not giving you a full view of the action and leading to some frustrating deaths where you get hit out of no where or when trying to look behind you leads to an unfortunate attack by an enemy trailing after you. The creature designs are well done, creepy and grotesque, but there isn't a TON of variation, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does drag on you after a while after killing a Haunted enemy for the 500th time.

The story is hard to follow and very vague and mostly feels like a set up for a sequel and in some ways it is nonsensical. Not a terrible story, but with a little tweaking it could have been a lot more satisfying and interesting. The characters you meet are very emotionally dead and have no real personality, but despite this you sort of connect and begin to enjoy their presence despite their characterizations and plain bad AI, as they give you the comfort of companionship. Some chapters feel like they go on too long, but the game offers checkpoints and save points that won't frustrate you as they might in a game like Alien: Isolation. The game also took me a sizable amount of time to complete.

The game also feels like it trails from the whole survival horror aspect and begins to feel a bit cheap or more like an action game as hordes can suddenly be thrown at you when you least expect it to surprise you and lead to quick thinking and intense fighting or enemies will automatically know you are around a corner in a scripted fashion. These things aren't bad necessarily, but it gets annoying when you want to go a more conservative approach towards the game and see if through patience and smart planning you can overcome your enemies and obstacles which feels thrown out the door when these encounters occur, and frequently so throughout the game.

Overall, The Evil Within is a good game, even great at times, it isn't the scariest game out there, but its atmosphere helps build an overarching suspense as you journey the twisted version of Krimson City. It has shortcomings for sure, but if you are a fan of Shinji or survival horror, you may not be dazzled as you may have been with games like Resident Evil 4 or the original Resident Evil, but you'll still find a thrilling experience that keeps you coming back for more.

Kill Nazis and look good while doing so with great gunplay and impressive visuals. What's not to like?

Going into Ryse: Son of Rome, I had few expectations for it. I mostly got it because it was on sale. The game is oh so definitely short, 4-5 hours max on hard, five for me due to multiple deaths. There are collectibles to find throughout the world, though I didn't pursue that much. The story isn't great by any stretch and is somewhat forgettable, but it fulfills its purpose. The gameplay was surprisingly not terrible, repetitive yes, but not as much of a QTE-fest as I had expected and the visuals are absolutely dazzling. The online seemed rather dead to me as I waited at least five minutes for a lobby and none showed up. Overall, if you can get this game on sale for a cheap price, I would recommend it as it has enough going for it that it will entertain.

The game is a bit difficult to get into at first for newcomers like me, but as you advance and learn the controls you gradually become better and better learning from prior mistakes and take on extravagant bosses in beautiful environments the game becomes very enjoyable. It is a game that requires lots of dedication and patience to master, but the sense of victory when you overcome each challenge is wonderful. Others can provide aid whether they are NPCs or actual people to help you overcome obstacles if you want, but can also be your downfall and kill you on your journey by invading your world, but they all add to the experience.
