This game is good. Sure, not 10/10, but the people with 200 hrs played (75 hours after review) who are not recommending are out of their minds.

I don't like reviewing games haven't played much, but this game is very promising and the reviews have so far been somewhat misleading. There are currently almost no reasons whatsoever to spend real world currency in game besides cosmetics. The only concern I have is balance. Some units are just better than others objectively, but hopefully that can be sorted out.

Game about building factories. Sometimes you even build factories, but other times you just build pretty bridges or devise a way to safely remove the nuclear waste your doggos keep bringing you.

Edited after the announcement that development will be "paused": With the release of 2.0 this game was looking better than ever and may have had potential rivaling my all time favorite game EUIV, unfortunately that potential likely won't be realized anymore. Do I still recommend it? Yes... But it breaks my heart to see this game shelved when it was just starting to really shine. Paradox, if you somehow see this, I love all that you've created and the joy it's brought me over the decades, but right now after EUIV Leviathan and this I'm honestly dejected.

Rome is a solid game that fans of strategy should give a chance and fans of the period show try without reservation. It's a bit rough around the edges and will benefit from upcoming free and paid content but the glut of negative reviews is just ridiculous. The launch day was bad, the performance was bad, but most of that has been fixed and what hasn't will be soon. Is it a perfect game, no, but does it deserve a 39% mostly negative, hell no, it's much more in line with the critic reviews hovering around 80% on average.

A kind of therapy for gamers after a long day of programming and more generally the kind of stress a modern technologically driven life brings. Sometimes you need to destroy things, sometimes you need to catch some fish and plant some parsnips. I'm actually pleasantly suprised that I genuinely love this game, it is an excellent and very polished labor of love from a single skilled developer.
