Game doesn't support any keybind customization. I don't know why I even bother with Cyan anymore after the last few fiascos.
I am of course refunding this.

Game does not allow you to rebind ANY keys. I suffered through their previous game - Obduction - with their forced WASD input keys, but I draw the line here.
I refuse to tolerate devs that hardcode keybinds into their games, because they think they know better. They don't.
I am refunding this and will think twice before buying anything else from them in the future. If you can't provide the bare minimum settings customization, then I do not care how good or bad the rest of the game is - you make it unplayable from the get go.

Absolute masterpiece when it comes to roguelite shooters.
A ton of engaging mechanics, awesome gunplay, very fluid controls
On top of it all game is extremely customisable when it comes to graphic controls, and especially screen ratio and resolution.
Good job!

Absolute masterpiece of gameplay mechanics and story telling.
I was a huge fan of both the previous entries in the saga (BG1 & BG2), which were the top cRPGs of their time, as well as Larian's previous releases (DOS1 & DOS2), which were the top cRPGS of their time.
The combination of having such an amazing developer take on such an amazing world is absolutely mind-blowing.
I'm currently at about halfway thru the game (please don't look at the hours played, a lot of it is idle time, when I'm working with the game running in the background) and cannot get enough.
The freedom, the story, the dialogue options, everything is absolute top-notch. To top all of that, the voice acting in this game is S-Tier. Every single character you meet is voice acted and acted to a degree not obtained by any other game to this point.
I'm sure you've all read or watched reviews of this game by this point. All I'm going to say that this is probably the best game I've ever played in my 35 years of gaming experience and I do not say this lightly.
Fantastic job Larian, you damn GOAT!

Game seemingly lets you customize your keys, but then slaps you with a bunch of hardcoded ones (like "surrender" when you're down, or any controls when you're doing puzzles), that overlap with your custom keys, making it an absolute trash experience.
Gunfire games, please fix your sh*t

The game is "ok" at its best. At its worst is horrible.

The bad:
You cannot rebind your keys. There's a post from 2018, where the devs say they'll implement key customization, however that turned out ot be a lie, as in 2023 it's still not possible. They explained how to do it manually via editing Inputs.ini, but not only have they provided a busted template, but the key hints in the game still show the old keys.
This would only be half horrible, but they also decided to implement a couple quick-time-events, so now not only do I have to hit the correct key in a very short period of time, I also have to remember what original key (that's displayed in the hint on the screen) corresponds to what key after editing inputs.ini.

Frame drops and stuttering on a high end machine
Controls are janky af. The also would only be half horrible, if they didn't decide to jam a bunch of platforming "puzzles" into the game.

The meh:
The story is FINE. It's not good. It's FINE. Can't say it gripped me at any moment. Half of it makes little sense if I'm to be honest, but I GET IT. It's FINE.
There was a missed opportunity at the very last scene of the game, where I thought a simple A or B choice would go a long way, making you the hero or the bad guy, depending on how you wanted to role play the character. Instead we get a very bland and quite unnecessary ending scene.
The puzzles were extremely easy, posing no challenge whatsoever at any point (unless you had to f******* jump)

The good:
The locations looked rather nice and believable. I was never lost or confused when it comes what to do next, or where I am.
Voice acting was also pretty decent. There's a bunch of recording you have to listen to and for the most part I quite enjoyed them.
The pace is usually fine. I didn't feel like the game dragged on. I am not a fan of extending playtime for the sake of extending playtime, so the length of the game was adequate to the amount of story it contained.

I didn't hate it. I didn't like it. I bought it 65% off, but don't think I really struck a bargain here. Meh.

So first of all I bought this game 2,5 years after release in hopes that by now surely all the bugs were ironed out. Oh boy!

The bad:
The game kept crashing on me every 2-3 hours and I'm running a rather high-end setup.
I still encountered a lot of T-posing, clipping, broken quests that I had to restart (e.g. elevators wouldn't turn on and I had to reload so they are operational)
While most keys are customizable, you still have a couple that are hardcoded which is just stupid at this point.

Story-wise it's a cringefest. Feels like the game was written by two high 14-year olds that were trying to one-up each other with the "cool factor".
Most of the time it makes little to no sense - one moment you're yelling at Neo that you will f***ing kill him, cuz he's a virus, the VERY NEXT minute you're best buddies looking for some bootlegs CDs of his concert. Absolute nonsense.
There's a crap ton of scripted events where you have the illusion that your actions matter, but it's all on rails and you have no real agency.
There's a lot of extremely slow-paced moments, where you're sitting in a chair looking at several different cut-scenes glued together in one unending display of writing ineptitude.

The meh:
Most of the sidequests and gigs are just cookie-cutter bs, meant to lengthen the gametime, but they're just not worth bothering. After you've done 3, you've done them all.
The dialogue often makes as much sense as in Fallout 4 - you're being tricked into choosing one of the dialogue options, only to learn that you'll actually say something completely different.
Bullet-sponge enemies and looter-shooter mechanics are not my cup of tea and in my opinion are cheapening the experience, but I understand some folks like it, so they'll probably have a much better time with this than I did.
Driving mechanics feels rather off. It's like you're driving on ice for most of the game, until you get a couple vehicles that actually seem to have some traction.

The good:
Well... the game looks good I guess?
Some of the quests were decent enough, that maybe the two high 14 year olds writers sometimes got some adult supervision. Or maybe they got lucky. Hard to tell.
I would put this game in the "so bad it's good" bin. If you don't take any of it seriously, like stupid writing and can get a chuckle from weird bugs, then you might spite-enjoy it, like I did.

PS:
I just watched a gameranx video about the upcoming DLC and apparently the story is supposed to be as good as in the base game, so it sounds just fantastic.
In my playthrough of the base game I turned out to be a space thief, which was just such a fitting conclusion for this dumpster fire, that you've peaked my interest. As the classic goes - you son of a b****, I'm in.

A brilliant detective game. Don't get fooled by its rough, pixelated looks. It is a polished game, with an intriguing story spanning several different investigations you have to go through to reveal all the twists and turns.

I was waiting for a title like this ever since I fell in love with Obra Dinn. It definitely scratched the gumshoe itch, that very few games can.

I would highly recommend to grab this title whether on sale or not, as for the asking price, it absolutely delivers. This includes the DLC that sheds even more light on the events from the base game.

Absolute gem of a game.

Game does not allow to rebind the keys, hence making it completely unplayable for me.
Once again I refuse to tolerate devs that hardcode keybinds in their games, because they think they know better. They don't.

Looking at the community posts, it appears the devs are maybe planning to implement custom keybinds in the future.
I'm refunding for now. We'll see how it goes. Can't promise I can be bothered to re-buy and re-review this at a later point. For it's current state - absolutely not recommended.

I wasn't convinced at first, but the more I play, the more I like it. Have a Nice Death is heavily inspired by Hades, with a lot of its upgrade mechanics and even humor, so if you've ever wondered whether Hades would work as a 2D-platformer - here's your answer. Movement and combat is very slick and fluid. No jank will be found here. Game allows for full customization of keybinds, which is awesome, because I don't like the default controller setup (prefer my attack buttons mapped to bumpers and triggers). Overall a warm recommendation. It'll definitely scratch the platformer itch until Silksong comes out :)
