Just let me start by saying DR4X is weird, but delightfully so.
On the surface it's another turn based strategy game with a retro style that's uniquely appealing. However, underneath there's a lot more going on. There's a game within a game here, hidden in plain sight in the menu's, the character art and pretty much everywhere else. If you pay attention strange and wonderful things will unravel before you, all accented by an alien language of the HP Lovecraft variety.
This multifaceted experience is reflected in the gameplay itself. During the campaign Skeletons and Zombies will crawl out from the swamp lands to assault your settlements, as will eldritch beasts like Hell Bears. Seriously, I hate those damned Hell Bears!
Then comes the skirmish mode, customise your experience, or take on a preset scenario. Honestly this particular mode is where the game really hits it's stride and even after 8 hours of playing I feel like I've Hellbearly scratched the surface.
As for the rest? Well the artwork is great, it absolutely takes me back to my youth reading the Fighting Fantasy books of Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. The voice acting is delightfully cheese, even when facing total annihilation, you'll find yourself smiling in glee to the call of "Bury me with my gold!"

The TLDR version:
DR4X is a delightfully bizarre creation that will immerse you in a harsh, retro style world that has a charm all it's own, despite it's inspirations. Anyone familiar with turn based strategy games will be able to get into it pretty quickly and will love all the quirky elements.
DR4X is clearly a labour of love from the one lone dev (Untrustedlife), whose attention to detail and dedication will keep this game entertaining for a long time to come.

This game is old enough (in style) to tick all those lovely nostalgia boxes, while being new enough to be interesting and fun.
Yes it's a difficult game, but it's not too difficult. The more you play, the more you learn and the easier time you'll have. There's also tons of variety, there's only a few characters, but there's a hundred different ways to play each one, with more custom characters planned.
The devs are also fantastic, constant news and regular updates while being active posters in the forums.

Pro's:
The voice acting isn't bad.
The artwork is also not bad
Hilarious character models

Con's:
Literally EVERYTHING else.

Conclusion:
With years of hard work, patience and care from the dev's this game has the potential to be utter garbage, sadly it hasn't reached those heights so far.
