Gem of a game! my Son would not stop hassling me until I purchased so we could play co-op against the new AI. Took a while to get my head around the concept of lines compared to traditional RTS, but once it clicks its fantastic with more depth than meets the eye. Go through all the tutorials first to avoid a frustrating initial experience (e.g wondering why your men are not moving as you intended). We both missed the 50% off by a day, but we don't care, already racked up 24hrs of gameplay and happy to support the dev's.

Purchased after the WAB review. What a gem of a game! looking forward to more content updates.

UPDATE: 40hrs within a week .. guess I like it then! :D If you love this game but wish for a bit more depth/complexity then also look at Star Sector. Another great game that feels more like Mount and Blade in Space as you build your fleet. Complements this more arcade experience (both great in their own ways).

Early Access Review
After 4 hours of playing I requested a refund as its pretty to look at but dull to play. My refund was refused so I gave it another go and started to appreciate some of the mechanics (especially with Freman and ability to ride worms), but then realised the AI is cheating big time with resources, being able to constantly spawn and maintain more troops in a way you never can. You then realise the strategy of holding the spice locations is pretty pointless. I'll keep an eye on it but meh

I love Distant Worlds Universe and couldn't wait to get my hands on DW2 (found myself re-checking the launch date every week for the past year). Its effectively a welcome re-skin of the User Interface and graphics, but lighter on the content, and riddled with bugs and crashes (it just crashed again, giving me time to make this review). I miss the old music, and orbiting planets. I have not doubt this will be a great successor in years to come and look forward to the patches. I am enjoying it but would only recommend buying this now if you accept the fact it will feel like a beta / advanced Early access title at full price, and don't mind the slow trickle of qualify of life improvements that are no doubt coming overtime.

Very pleased I ignored all the negative reviews and made my own decision. I've been bored of Civ for years and lost that "one more turn" addiction. Humankind has re-ignited my love for the genre and most of the negative feedback are from people dependent on the civ way. Humans don't like change, hence the negative reviews, but for me its perfect. Yes there are some mechanics that need improving (Religion, Society namely.. I actually like the diplomacy), but Civ needed years of patches and DLC post launch to be any good, so to have a well rounded game from launch day 1 means the future looks bright indeed.

It says I've played for over 6 hours, when in fact I've just been watching a download screen with no end in sight. Download simulator.

I've racked up 56hrs in less than a week and loved it so much I used the "purchase for a friend" function for the first time just so they can experience it! After 56 hours I conquered all of Ireland with a 65 year old female Tyrant who no one would dare oppose, however, it all started to fall apart when she died of old age and my well groomed heir contracted and died of Leprosy. The title was then quickly given to my 2nd son who was shy and didnt want the job, so died of stress within 2 years. His 3 year old son then inherited the title, but this upset all my vassals so they arrested and deposed him within a year. Will do it all over again :D

Early Access Review
Waited 8 yrs and even though its early access I can tell you its already better than the original! 27hrs in and just got my first castle with only 43 men! I spent that time prowling for a castle weakened by a big battle between 2 rival clans. Just walked in and took it! This is a perfect example of why its such a great sandbox game! Now I've just got to hold onto it :D

Early Access Review
I was fully aware of the problems around Hackers/Glitchers but decided to purchase anyway as I just love the concept of the game.

Firstly, its one of the best experiences I've ever had in a computer game. The first person I met shot me on sight while I was eating a bannana in a garage with the door wide open (Lesson Learned.. you were not born in a field, close the door).

My second encounter was while I was running away from 4 zombies and ran into a guy called "Ian". I pleaded for him not to shoot me and put both my hands in the air. He saved me from the Zombies, patched me up, gave me my first gun with ammo and an axe, wished me luck and sent me on my way...

My heart was literally pounding.. I've now got some good gear and the thought of dying makes you extra cautious as you don't want to start again as naked as the day you were born.

10/10 .. OMG this is amazing.

I then bumped into a Russian who worked with me for about 20mins.. I eventually followed him up a roof and as I turned around he caved my skull with a crowbar.

11/10 .. Lesson number 2, don't trust anyone.

BUT

On my 3rd attempt I spend 4 hours buiding up my character and eventually go into a garage and close the door, hide in the corner and look at my gear and plan the next move.

Suddently I'm presented with the "you are unconcious" screen shortly followed by "You have Died". No one was in the room with me.

And thats how I met my first hacker/glitcher and died in similar circumstances 3 times so far in the past 12 hours. Bugs I can manage, its an Alpha afterall. When stuff just vanishes from my backpack I don't care, when I throw a weapon away and I get stuck in a wall and can't move, I dont care. When you get killed by people because they are scared or just KOS (Killed on SIght) fine.... But when you spend hours building your character, only to be taken out by the hordes of glitchers/hackers without even seeing them you get annoyed very quickly and lose the will to play.

I do recommend this game for the experience but it will be short lived. Looking forward to playing buggy alpha code if they at least do something about these hackers.
